So we are arriving for our first visit to this area in March 2013. Is there an update with regards to the "shark tank" and their tactics?

We are arriving via Air Canada Vacations and staying at the Sunscape Dorado. Transportation to the resort is included in our package so where would we meet that transportation?

After you get your bags head outside and look for your tour operator. The sale sharks will get you as soon as you walk outside.

@johnny - there is still a "shark tank' here but it looks like you have been to PV so you will be relieved by the Zihua version of it. The tank is a total of about 25 feet and with you being with AC, you can essentially just walk right out of the room and meet your AC rep who will have logo'd shirts and are looking to cross you off the list, not sell you anything.

The sharks can get in your face a bit and make a lot of "free meals, etc" quotes but as long as you are not a frugal traveler, this would not really mean anything to you anyway, so just push through! The are only tactics if you are looking for the deals in the first place.

Yes we have been to PV a couple of times and no problem running the gauntlet. We appreciate the advice.

On another note, how is the selection of duty free liquor in the airport Departure area?

They took away the duty free shop. I dont' know what is going on...

When you get past customs, a super friendly, smiling, helpful guy will most likely greet you.

• He will want to know whom you are meeting and where you are going.

• He will be very charming.

• He will offer you a rebate on taxi prices, a free ride to town or a free breakfast.

• He is a TIME SHARE SHARK.

• He will eat away your vacation, cost you money and make you mad.

• Say a firm ”No, gracias” and turn your back. Do not engage him in further conversation.

That being said, there are still only a handful of sharks in the Zihua airport. They have good noses for the most naive of travellers.

As ted61 said, there are a couple of places just outside the airport that will have much better authentic Mexican food and colder beer at about 1/2 the price of the airport. The restaurant/bar at the airport is a tourist trap and should be avoided.

gary & ted61:

I looked at Google maps Streetview (photos dated 2009, for what it's worth) and see a small place called 'El Maguey' on the east side Carretera Aeropuerto and another that's called 'Super C/Andy's Shop' nearby on the west side; both are just north of the ZIH parking lot. I assume these are the 'authentic' places - any recommendations at either (or have other places opened since 2009?)?

Andy's is our first stop after leaving the airport for cold beers. He also has a location downtown in El Centro. The place across the street serves great food.

Hello--is there a place to exchange US dollars to Pesos in the Ixtapa airport?
