We stayed at Club Med in late March for a week. They put us in the farthest building to the north of the property next to a public beach parking lot. Not a problem.

But what has been bugging me is I never got around to exploring just what was between the Club Med and the Melia Azul. Does anybidy know what it is? Looks like an outdoor theater>

Sorry, I don't know either. I spent my entire time getting to know everything about Club Med. Also I made friends of the bartenders near the beach and just couldn't leave them alone.

I don't have an 'authoritative' answer, but...

When we were at the Club Med in April, we paddled up fairly close to the little beach and when we went walking along the street we walked a ways down into the parking lot for that "facility'. It was undergoing major renovation at that time. It looked like it either had been or was going to be some kind of "club", like a private beach club. It had a good sized parking area, probably large enough for more than 100 cars. Not big enough for any kind of 'resort', and I don't think a private residence would make sense there, especially with all that parking space.

Paco, our tour guide/driver, mentioned that one of the large houses around that area, possibly the building in question, used to he the private residence of the family that owned most of the Ixtapa property before the Mexican government decided it would make a good resort area and "bought" it from the family (for a decent price).

I would also be interested in hearing any additional (correct??) information.

What I saw was not a RV type facility.. At least, not when I saw it. The parking lot was marked with standard auto sized spaces and were tight together, just like a standard parking lot. The building, down close to the water/beach, was good sized and looked like had been somewhat "ornate" at one time. Perhaps it had been an RV park and they were making it into something else...??

Matter of fact, if anyone wants to take a look and possibly recognize the area we're talking about, crank up Google Earth and navigate to:

17degrees 40' 29" N, 101 38' 33" W

It is adjacent to and north of the Club Med, and South of the Melia Azul. There is an apparently undeveloped area between this property and the Melia Azul, getting wider toward the road and narrow at the "beach".
