Airport Transportation - don't do roundtrip! |
|
Just wanted to warn anyone planning a trip to Cabo about the transportation situation. Apparently there is something going on with the local taxi union and some transportation companies are having a hard time getting into resorts. We paid for a roundtrip from Trans Cabo but they weren't there to take us back to the airport! It was a little stressful for us first-timers, but we managed to get back in a taxi with our last bit of cash. And to Transcabo's credit, they emailed me right away about a refund. I would either go the taxi route or do a one-way to your hotel and get a taxi back. Taxis were charging $15 pp, which is the same as Transcabo anyway. It was an unforunate ending to our trip, but otherwise had an awesome time in Cabo!! |

Thanks for the info AEgan - we booked roundtrip airport transport thru TransCabo several weeks ago. I heard about what is going on thru a different post on this forum just last night. I had a car booked through Dominic and he graciously extended it by a day so that we will be able to drive ourselves to the airport. I have an e-mail in to TransCabo asking them to cancel and refund our airport return trip due to the uncertainty that they will actually be able to provide the service and am awaiting their response.

This situation does not seem to affect all the resorts nor all the transfer companies. We had no problem what-so-ever with Cape Travel to/from Solmar this last May, nor have we in the past.

KatD: this is a new situation as of just last week. Per a query I sent to TransCabo: "At this moment there is nothing confirmed, during the week will be meetings with the taxi unions, the government and the transportation companies to try to resolve this problem, we are keeping all the departure transportation son standby until a resolution, if there is not a positive answer from the government, we will have to inform our clients that the departure transfers will be cancelled and the Money refunded, unfortunately this is something out of our control, and anybody can say what is going to happen during the next days, but we will keep you informed, please send us an e mail one day before your arrival in order to verify if something changes or not."

We were there from 6/3 to 6/7 and stayed at the RIU Santa Fe. We got in fine, it was just our departure that was an issue. It seemed to be pretty widespread though. Even the big booking companies like Apple and Funjet had reps there loading their customers into taxis. Hopefully things go smoothly for those of you heading out soon! I'm jealous. I'm not ready to be back at work!!

It is a situation that rears it's ugly head off and on, unfortunately, and has caused confusion and stress when ever it does. I was simply saying that I've not had problems with the transfers, RT, to the resorts I stay in, even when there have been other problems. The good news though, is that if you are traveling with others, the return cab fare is very reasonable. It is always wise to be prepared for things like this to crop up when traveling any place these days.

AEgan, Where were you staying? Just so others can be more informed.....It seems it was happening more at the Riu properties than other resorts but now it sounds like its even more widespread. Probably best to have the hotel book your return trip to the airport for now (if they are even still doing that) that way the hotel management can help put pressure on the taxi union to resolve this whole transpo snafu. The hotel would feel the pressure if there was a lobby full stranded guests. Oh darn, I would have to stay in Cabo another day :)

We were at the RIU Santa Fe. It was an issue at RIU Palace too, not sure about other hotels. Any idea why it would just be the RIU? Just curious. Some of the transportation/tour companies had reps at the resort helping out. Transcabo did not. They did answer my call though and told me I would have to take a taxi, so that was helpful! It was just confusing for a while because we didn't know if they were coming and just late (not unusual in Mexico) or if we should call somebody. We told the hotel transportation guy that we were waiting for Transcabo and he didn't say anything, so I was glad I finally called!

We are staying at the Riu palace and have booked EPIC to shuttle us. Does anyone think we will have a problem?
|
For some reason, unknown to most, it seems to frequently involve the Riu properties. I know, I'd like to know why they seem to be harder hit.
|
heather11_13, I would check with EPIC. I think they were one of the companies that had a rep at the resort helping people and getting them taxis. Worst case scenario, keep at least $15 pp cash for a taxi back to the airport! The drivers will let you in with a group if you are paying cash.
