Restaurant Review! Gardenias Fish Tacos |
|
Gardenias Crunchy, sizzlingly hot strips of batter-fried halibut, folded into warm corn tortillas with salsa, shredded cabbage and a squeeze of lime, sprinkled with freshly chopped herbs and finished with a squirt of thick, cultured cream.... ah how I love thee Fish Tacos. Gardenias definitely in my top 3 for fish tacos in Baja (best in cabo). 18.00 pesos "Ill take four"mmmmm. They come to your table nekkid its up to you to add all the fixings. I included photo links at the bottom of this post. If you only go once go for the fish tacos. If you come back definitely try the Special Shrimp Molcajete prepared with salsa, onion and cheese. Its 280 pesos however its enough to feed two. I made my own shrimp taco creations yummmmmmm. They also variety of Tacos besides fish: cactus, porkrind, , bbq beef, bbq pork, and chicken all 18 pesos. Shrimp tacos (battered) 20 pesos. Ceviche, Seafood soup and shrimp cocktail is also served. My wife is a Baja Native and absolutely loved the chicharron (pork rind ) tacos. She said they were just like grandmas. We also tried the cactus tacos, shrimp tacos, and ceviche. All was good. For the kids you can order quesedillas and rice. Open Daily 8am-5pm behind McDonalds. Family owned and operated everyone works their from Grandma on down. Service is fast and friendly Very good bar also. I got a new routine have a bucket of beer at the office or billigans had straight down the street to Gardenias for lunch. …photobucket.com/albums/…Picture090.jpg …photobucket.com/albums/…Picture298.jpg …photobucket.com/albums/…Picture295.jpg …photobucket.com/albums/…Picture087.jpg |

You made my mouth water reading your description! Yes! Gardenia's has the best fish and shrimp tacos, hands down! BUT, you need to try their ceviche. It is the BEST in Cabo! We get a "to-go" order almost every day! Their chicharrone tacos also are excellent...and they give you so much (and on two corn tortillas) that you can make TWO tacos from it. The shrimp molcajete is my son's favorite. It makes many tacos and can really feed more than two! The family who run Gardenias is so nice. One of the sister left and moved to be with her family in San Carlos and opened up a taco stand there. Also...I note you are in California...in Sausalito, there is a taco stand that the son of the owner opened with his EX-girlfriend. The EX still runs it. So, if you live near there...you can get your fix as the son told me they make the tacos there just like the ones in Cabo.

Hey Foodcritic, thanks for the mouth watering pictures of the dishes available at Gardenias. The third picture on your list looks like a bunch of shrimp inside a black bowl,is this the Molcajete?

What a excellent description you gave. In fact now i will try them in May. We've heard about Gardenias but haven't had a chance to make our way over. Now we will. thanks Bob

As many times as we've been down there, we've never made it there. I think that its going to be a TO DO on our next trip. Thanks for the mouth watering review

I've been wanting to go here for awhile and now with these pics I'm even more determined. Last year in Cabo, even with a map in hand I failed to find this place. Can anyone give me some things to look for so I will know I'm in the right area?

Victorious23 ~ isn't it funny that you can be in this small town, and you can't find something? I've searched and searched for places before. Try this map. wikimapia.org/…2 It has a good visual of the actual streets and you can see how far Gardenias is from McDonald's. This map might be helpful, as well. helmbrechtsonline.com/Cabo/images/city_cabos…

Thanks so much for the map PacificNW! You know, I think I might have been in the right area afterall. I definitely remember being near the fire dept. Does this place close early? I remember last year I had thought I found it but the place looked like it had been shut down.
|
I don't think they are open for dinner ~ close around 5 pm? Confirmation of this anyone?
|
Yes they close about 5 pm
|
Looking on the Wikipedia map helps...but perhaps more physical landmarks can help more. Turn at the Mc Donalds. Pass the fire station and turn right at Mi Casa Marisco restaurant. Go down about one half block and Gardenias will be on your right.
