Hi all, I'm heading down to Tulum and staying at Posada Lamar from Feb 10-18. I'm just wondering if anybody had any recommendations of what to bring with me or what to pick up on the car ride down. I'm thinking about purchasing a cooler and buying water, sodas, juices, etc. I have a few concerns. First, Is there Ice easily available to refresh my cooler? Secondly, Would management have problem with me having items such as cheeses and snacks in the cooler?

Besides the ruins and cenotes are there any other activities anybody would recommend? Does anybody know of a place near Posada Lamar that I could possibly rent a kayak? Does anybody know of any reasonable fishing charters? I will have a car so I would be willing to travel a little to find a good deal on a charter.

Currently there aren't many pictures of Posada Lamar floating around but I will make sure I take plenty and post them when I arrive back.

Thanks

Hi there. I'm going to Lamar on the 26th, so I guess I'll just miss you. Hope you post your review and pics by then!

There are a few little shops along the beach road that have ice for sale. I don't know if Playa Kin-Ha (right next door) would sell you ice, but these other shops aren't far from there. As for keeping snacks in the cooler, if it's a sturdy (i.e., hard-sided, latching lid, non-styrofoam) type and you are sure to always keep the stuff locked up in there, it might not be a problem. But the critters will find whatever they can find, so I don't think I'd be keeping food in the room.

I stayed at a place once where the person in the cabana next door was complaining bitterly about ants in their room to the point of making a stink about it, and then it turned out they had brought snacks, candy, in fact, and left it in a bag on the floor. Um, duh.

What unit are you staying in? And did you notice that when you click on your room name on their website, over to the right side where it says "photos", they have little blank boxes? If you click on those, you'll see more pics of your room. I only found it by clicking around sort of aimlessly, because they sure didn't look like other pics to me at first. Maybe you already looked at them, but I thought Lamar had more room pics than most places along the beach!

Punta Piedra dive shop can take you out fishing. It's about $180usd per boat, so if you can get some people together, y'all can split the cost.

There's an ice truck that travels the beach road everyday selling ice to all the hotels/stores. It's in big blocks. You might have to arrange to have someone look for the truck - like at Kin-Ha (where they surely get ice) and pay them to get you a block.

You can rent a kayak in Sian Kaan - the biosphere. Kon-Waye is on the right hand side as you travel south. It's just past Cesiak. They do guided tours in the lagoon. We rented them on our own and paddled around, but I think a tour would be much better - we didn't really know where to go.

Thanks Pepper and Beachreader for your replies.

Beachreader,

I'm staying in Cabana Esmeralda. I saw the additional pictures but I always like to see some candid photos also. I'll definately try to put up a review and pictures once I arrive back. This forum has been a great help for me when planning my trip and I will try to contribute as much as I can when I arrive back.

Gotsit, I'm really curious about Esmeralda; it wasn't available for my dates so I'm going to be in Ambar (one of the doubles). But I loved that Esmeralda was only $100, can't wait to hear more about it!

Have a great trip!

Beachreader.

We are arriving at Lamar on 2/25 for 5 nights. Our group is staying in Cristal and Agata. This is our first time to Tulum, so we're really looking forward to it. We'll see you down there.

Gotsit.

I too would love to hear your review and any pictures upon your return.
