My husband and I are planning to spend 10 days in the Yucatan in November 2007. We are not the all-inclusive type and are looking for quiet time, beautiful beaches AND affordable lodging. Since it will be our first trip in that area, we would still like to do a few excursions (Chiche Itza, Cozumel, swim with the dolphins, etc). We are considering landing in Cancun, stay around Merida for 2-3 nights and spend the rest in Tulum. The reviews are great when it comes down to the specific about the hotels but it's difficult to get a sense of what's happenning around... Our concern is that although we need some relaxing time, will 1 week in Tulum be too much, especially if we don't rent a car for the whole duration of trip? That's my next question, can we get around to different eating places and to the village without a car?
