My boyfriend and I are looking at a trip to somewhere in Mexico in March or April for only 4 or 5 days. It looks like Tulum has what we would like. We are very outdoorsy and would love a place to hike. We want to see some of the ruins and we want to enjoy the beach. We are in our late 20's and are no longer into the big party seen, but still like to go out.

Is Tulum the place for us or do any of you have other recommendation? If Tulum is it we would really appreciate any advice on where to stay and what to do.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers, Irishkat

You would like to wander around the ruins of Muyil and Coba - in jungle settings that haven't been completely clear-cut like Chichen-Itza.

Tulum is for you if you can deal with limited electricity; a laid-back attitude; seeing lizards, and other jungle-like creatures. Read through the hotel descriptions on hotelstulum.com, todotulum.com, differentworld.com and locogringo.com....and see if there's anything you might like.

We just returned from Tulum and we loved it. If you're looking for R&R then Tulum is for you. The night life in Tulum is fantastic but not "party" the bars are fun, the people are great and you feel safe ... at least we did. Tulum is colorful and intriguing.

There is lots to do and see in Tulum and the beaches are fantastic (Go to the Tulum Ruins and bring your bathing suit ... the beach there is to die for).

Also, research your trip and get maps of the places you want to see from cancunmaps.com, $8 us but they will save you the tours and guides since all the info is in there (sorry no maps on Muyil but worth seeing).

If you want a full day of 1 tour I recommend but only available through a travel agent in Tulum is the Muyil Maya Tour ... the guide brings you to Muyil ruins, then a boat ride in the Laguna and a visit to a real Mayan village. Also note that Muyil is in the Sian Ka’an reserve, there are 365 species of birds on the reserve and we saw a bunch (wild turkeys are like 5 foot tall).

We just came back and haven't had a chance to post the review on our hotel but if you want info on our trips and photos then check these forums in the next few days or write me at dabaerdi5@videotron.ca.
