A beach, snokeling, diving holiday - Rivera Maya or Cozumel

Hi

Can anyone tell me the best place for this type of holiday. The brochures say they do trips from Rivera Maya to the reefs at Cozumel - any idea of the cost and time.

Also how do these two resorts compair?

thanks

Cozumel is an island, not a resort. The Riveria Maya is a long stretch that runs from Cancun to Tulum, quite a bit of distance, and has many resorts along the way. You can take a ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. There are also many dive trips available to or on Cozumel. You have alot of options. You can stay on Cozumel or do day trips there from Playa. If you like to snorkel, I'd stay in Akumal (Club Akumal Caribe Hotel is great), and take diving excursions during the day. I would avoid AI's and staying in Cancun. Playa del Carmen is fun, but very busy with tourists. You can lay back in Akumal, and there is fantastic snorkeling right outside the door of the hotel, turtles, rays, barracudas, and a very nice reef nearby. Also, dive shops and excursions. Find a Riveria Maya map on line so you get a better feel of the area. You'll love it!!

You can stay at Aventura Spa Palace (All inclusive & adults only) or Playacar Palace (All inclusive) and take the ferry over to Cozumel Palace, where you have all privleges (snorkeling, beach, pools, restaurants, etc.) because you are staying at another Palace Resort.

Palace will put together a diving trip for you if you wish.

PS-You can also snorkel at Aventura Spa Palace.

If a major focus of your trip is diving then stay on Cozumel. Possible hotels with beaches include El Cozumeleno, Reef Club, Iberostar, Occidental Grand and the Allegro. The last three are closest to the main dive sites, Reef Club is Ok and El Coz is the most distant.
