hey there.

i am wondering maybe(holly) could answer this or any other tulum expert but i just read a post that wrote about the staff at cabanas copal not getting paid for the past few months. does anyone know if this is true. the post came from a journalist but , this is the internet after all and one can never really know what someones identiy really is.

i ask this because i a) was hoping to stay at cabanas copal in the new year as it sounds quite lovely, b) i don't want to support this kind of mistreatment in my home counrty or mexico!

please, if anyone could clear this up for me that would be great,

are there alternatives where they treat their employees with respect.

i know that being a "traveler" or a person comming from a place of privlege and "vacationing" is always supporting tourist development but i know that it can be done in a sustainable way and i hope to support those ways.

thanks

Wow, do you have the info on which journalist published that information? Please let me know so I can check it out.

Staff is paid on a bimonthly basis, which is common in Mexico as in many other places, usually every 15th and 30th of each month.

We make every effort to support the communities where our businesses are located, including providing above-average salaries for our staff (we monitor this with comparison to reports produced on a regular basis by the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, which provide a calculation of the average salary for each position within the hotel industry), loans to our staff on an as-needed basis, and other community aid, such as our participation in Give a Toy, Get a Smile this December. We are investigating additional programs to expand our assistance for 2007 and beyond.

hey there holly.

i was looking into cabanas copal and i entered it in the search bar in tulum forums and the post that i mentioned came up. it was on dec 22.i think this person replied to your "give a toy, get a smile" post.

and like i said , i didn't want to assume that everything i find on the internet is the pure truth because there is know way of knowing .....

but maybe this person isn't familiar with the bi-monthly paying method and jumped to conclusions ... but thanks for clearing that up for me. it does sound strange to pay bi-minthly as that is a long time inbetween getting paid but if it is the "standard" and "procedure" in the riviera maya then i supose it makes sense.

thank you!

Sorry, bimonthly was the wrong term. Twice a month: 15th and 30th.

Thanks! I will check it out.

Thanks again for providing the post! I had stopped monitoring that thread now that the toy drive is over.

The posts are both strange. Both posters have one single post on the forums. I replied with the same info I posted here, so hopefully this is all cleared up.

Thanks!

hey there holly.

it is strange, i too noticed that they have never posted before.

who knows? maybe it was some jerk posing as a journalist? i am glad that you straightened things out for me. getting paid twice a month is normal maybe there was miscommunication somewhere with bi-monthly and bi-weekly.

have a good day!

thanks again .

Maybe you´re right...if I´m a native English speaker and I messed up bi-weekly with bi-monthly, it´s a possibility!!
