I am torn between the Grand Palladium at Riviera Maya and Iberostar in La Romana. Can anyone compare these two resorts for beach, rooms and food or just general advice! Thanks. Kathy

Hi
I stayed at the Palladium 3 winters ago and last winter we went to LaRoma at Casa Del Mar. I know this isnt exactly what you wanted to know but if you have some questions just let me know.
I have not stayed at the Grand Palladium, we're big Aventura Spa Palace fans. So I can't comment on that property. But I have stayed at the Iberostar in La Romana. I prefer Mexico to the DR.
I loved the beach and the water in La Romana. I prefer it to the resorts we've stayed at in Mexico. I realize the DR is a very, very poor country, but I also found it to have a dirty feel. I've traveled to many third world countries and I even lived in a small rural Mexican village for a while. And I never had that same "dirty" feeling. Perhaps it has to do with all the trash I saw along side the road and out on the coral reefs. BUT, the beach at the Iberostar was very pretty. Super soft sand and very warm water.
I thought the food at the Iberostar was very, good, considering how many people they were feeding. The employees at the resort though were not very helpful and often made us feel like we were imposing on them when we made even the most simple request.
As for Mexico...I feel much, much safer in Mexico. I find the people to be friendlier and more helpful in Mexico and I enjoyed the company of my fellow travelers in Mexico more so than in the DR.
So if it were me I'd go to Mexico. We just returned on Saturday and I'm already checking to see when we can go again.
