We are a group of of 6 couples concidering the Gran Bahia Principe Coba. We are concern about the beach area at the resort. We have read many mixed reviews.

What are beaches like in this area? Rocky? Areas to swim in?

The Coba section is not on the beach, you have to walk or take the shuttle to the beach. The beach is shared by the Tulum, Akumal and Coba, you can sit wherever you wish, but, while I have not been back since the Coba opened, I have seen photos on this website of the Coba "section" of the beach. I would recommend water shoes, but there is a portion of the beach on the Akumal side that is just wonderful. Once you get past the coral (yes it is alive) at the ocean's edge, there is sandy bottom. We love the Bahia (Tulum side, just our preference) and hopefully will be going back for our third time next April.
