Tulum & Akumal Questions...

I am travelling to Playa Del Carmen in a couple of weeks and am hoping to visit the Tulum ruins, Talum beach and Akumal Beach while I'm there. We will be renting a car and driving down there from Playa Del Carmen. I had a couple of questions that I was hoping someone could help answer.

What the cost is for the ruins, also is it in pesos or dollars?

What would be the best time to visit the ruins?

Is there a particular day that would be less busy than others?

Is there a tourist shop area around Tulum and what is it like?

Would you suggest visiting Akumal beach on the same day?

Can Akumal beach become busy, is there a time that would be best to visit Akumal?

Thank you for your assistance.

Is there a beach at Coba? We had considered Tulum for the ruins and beach. But if Coba has a beach...

Coba is almost an hour inland. No beach.

And just an FYI. We went to Yalku in July. Got there around 3. Only about 10 people in the entire lagoon. Wonder if we got there as the group tours left. Nice and peaceful for 2 hours. Closes at 5.

Wow Pepper, that's great to know. So maybe get to Akumal Bay early in the a.m., linger over lunch, maybe hit La Buena Vida and Half Moon Bay for a bit, then head up to Yalku? I'll try that next time.

@ Cedercrest (or anyone else that knows) - Did you drive a rental vehicle to Tulum and Gran cenote or did you hire a driver? Is it safe to leave some belongings in your car while at these excursions such as beach gear (nothing valuable of course).

Secondly, how far approx. is The Catalonia Royal Tulum from the Tulum ruins?

Thank you.

We've always rented cars & yes, leaving your gear in the trunk is just as safe as it is at home (meaning never 100% safe). CRT is about 25 minutes north of Tulum, it's on the south end of Puerto Aventuras @ Xpu Ha beach (one of my favorites...beautiful!)

try my golf cart tour of Akumal

Rent a golf cart near the white entrance arches to Akumal for $20 US for 4 hrs

Goto Yal-Ku and spend a few hours snorkeling

Back to La Buena Vida for lunch and drinks

Return the golf cart and spend the rest of the day in Akumal
