I will be at the BPT Jan 23 - 27 and would like to take a bus into Playa del Carmen vs. a taxi. Where can I catch the bus, hours it returns, etc. as I'd like to go out to the Blue Parrot in PDC.

Madtown. Just walk out to the main road (307) and the collectivo's (white vans) go by every few minutes. You need to flag them down by waving,. If they have room they will stop, if not they will flash their lights. They cost about $20 pesos/person one way to take into PDC. They are very interesting to take. I enjoyed it, not sure about my wife. They drop you off about two blocks from 5th avenue. and start from the same location. Not sure about the hours, so when you get off the bus. talk to one of the dispatchers there. We only went during the day, and not at night. Plan about an 30 minutes to an hour to get into town from the BPT, after you get on the van.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I think we'll try the collectivo getting into PDC and cabbing it back!

My husband and I took the Collectivo (white vans) from Tulum to Playa de Carmen. It was about 40 miles and cost us $2.50 USD each. They drop you off about 3 blocks from the main shopping street. When we were done, we walked back to the drop off point and took the van back. No problems and they dropped us off in front of our hotel.

Colectivo is the way to go, if you take one back to your hotel just let the driver know where you want off...and at 6 pm they are a little crowded with all the workers from the hotels going home, but I had no problems.

Madtown - we too are going to BPT in March and would love to hear how your experience goes. Any tips for the resort, excursions, restaurants or traveling into PDC would be greatly appreciated. Let us know how late the collectivos run, as we would love to go to the bars in PDC when we are there also. Hope you had a wonderful time!
