Advice for Posada Lamar |
|
We are debating on staying at the Posada Lamar in the Rubi Cabana for a few nights. I have never been to Tulum and from what I can see, it seems a little rustic - which is fine with me, I just want to be prepared. I was hoping someone could answer a few questions... -Most important of all - would you recommend this hotel? - How is the privacy in the room? Is it set up high? Easy to see inside? - Are the mosquitos terrible? - Did it seem un-clean to you? - Is there any electricity? - Was the shower water salty or fresh? Was there hot water at all times? Any adivce you would like to give about staying there? Anything you didnt bring that you wish you had? |

I stayed at Posada Lamar for 9 nights in February (Esmeralda Cabana) and I enjoyed my stay immensely. The rooms are private and if I remember Rubi is set up high. It had one the the nicest beaches i've ever been to. A maid cleans the rooms daily and changes the linens every other day. The mosquitos were not that bad at all. There is electricity after 6 pm. The shower water was not salty but it was not potable. Hot water was one thing I did have problems with. 7 out of my 9 days, I had no problems with the hot water but 2 of the days there seemed to be no hot water. The first day I just sucked it up and took a luke warm shower. The second day I told management about the problem and they fixed the problem immediately. As far as advice goes Posada Lamar is in a great location. Kin-Ha is directly next store and is great for drinks. We actually had brought a cooler with us and purchased beer on our drive down from Cancun and wish we hadn't done so. It was much easier to just walk next door and purchase a cerveza at Kin-Ha. If you are renting a car beware of the gas station attendants. We only had to fill our tank 2 times but both times the attendant tried to rip us off. What they will do is make small talk with you to get you off guard. It will be time to pay and lets say you owe 300 pesos or $30. If you and them two $20 bills they will do a slight of hand trick and show and hold up a $20 and a $1 making you think you only had given them $21 instead of $30. My girlfriend fell for this the first time. The second we filled up our gas and I watched and what did you know the guy tried it a second time. I confronted him and he quickly gave us our change. If you are not renting a car there are tons of cabs and you will have no problem getting one. If you plan on seeing any of the ruins go early before the crowds arrive and it gets hot. For dinner Ana y Jose was very nice but a little pricey. Zamas was by far our favorite restaurant on the beach. Great atmosphere with nightly live music. Great food at a very reasonable price. We also enjoyed going into town to eat and Charlies and Don Cafeto's were our favorite locations there. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. | ||||||
