We have stayed at the Iberostar 8 times, you don't need a car to get to Playa del carmen. They have a free shuttle bus to get downtown. The bus pickes up at the Lindo side of the resort near the disco. Certian times of the day it can be full, so get there a little early. The bus will drop you off down town near the ferry to Cozumel, short walk maybe 2 minutes to get to 5th ave. If you are new to Playa stay on 5th ave till you get used to the city. 5th ave is 1 block of the beach.

You can also take a taxi for about 16 dollars one way. You can get a taxi from the lobby. Downtown there are taxis everywhere.

See if you can get a room near the pool, buildings 12 - 14. Get to know the star friends,(they are the poeple who are there to entertian you with activites and games.) They put on a show every night, something different every night. If you want to get into the ala carte resturants sign up early, they fill fast. Sign up desk is in the lobby.

Go to the disco.

Depending on your flight time your room may not be ready yet, dont fret. Just ask when it will be ready and get to the pool or the beach. There is a bar on the beach and a snack bar as well.

The rooms have hair dryer ,mini bar, safe, coffee pot, tv, if you need a iron call the front desk. The beds are firm, but who needs to sleep in paradise.

In short ...do not get a rental car. Others have been down the path without one.

Yeah, I agree. Dont waste the money on a rental car. The resorts bus is very nice and air conditioned. Im so jelous that you are going! We were there in november and had a wonderful time.

My only advice is be very careful walking in the resort when it is raining. It is all marble floors and they become VERY slippery. We found this out the hard way when my wife slipped and fell down the stairs, however due to that accident we got to see the hotel clinic which is extreamly nice and clean.
