Wedding at Riu Playacar April 07 |
|
My Fiance are getting married at the Riu Playacar next April - has anyone got married there or attended a wedding there who can tell me a bit about it? Obviously I have been told a lot by the brochures, website and tour company, but I'd love to hear things from a more personal aspect. Thanks! |
|
What day in April? We will be there the 11th-18th. We watch weddings every year when we go. (Don't worry we stay out of your wedding pics-nobody wants an old fat lady in their bathing suit in the background of all your photos!) The weddings all seemed nice. We have seen casual to really fancy. They seem to be short and sweet, right out on the beach overlooking the beach.

We get there on the 17th and get married on the 23rd - thats a shame - you could have taken extra pics for us! Thats the only problem with just us 2 going, no friends and relatives to take cameras full of snaps for us!

Hiya, Congrats on the wedding. We are getting married at the Riu Palace Mexico on April 18th 2007 so we'll be there the same time. Arrive on 11th April. I don't know much about weddings at the Playacar but all the feedback from weddings i've read at Riu resorts have been really positive and I think it will be the same wedding co-ordinators for the palace as the playacar and everyone has found them to be really helpful. They have been fab so far at responding to my queries. I bet your starting to get really excited like I am. Only 4 1/2 months to go. Anyway good luck with the planning and i'll probably see you there!! Michelle

we went to a wedding there in March. It was really nice. They set up a nice arbour on the beach and married them there. It will be a bit different for you maybe with no guests. I'm sure you will find someone there to take some pics for you. Great way to get married! All the best.

Bummer, we will just miss it! I could have taken pictures for you. I take a lot of photos in Mexico. It is such a beautiful place.

Thank you all for your comments - it is such a confusing time as anyone in my position wil understand - you seem to be given conflicting information everywhere you go! Mish - please help! Do we need to get our birth certificates translated into Spanish or not? Some sources say yes, others say no just legalised at the foreign and commonwealth office - can you shed any light? Cos it's not cheap really to get done of it's not necessary. And are you taking your dress on as hand luggage? I really want to but the Thomsons website wants to steer you into putting it in the hold - I don't want to! And is it just the 2 of you going or are you taking family and friends? Sorry to bombar you with questins but it is really nice to talk to someone in the same situation! Good luck and hope to chat again soon, Little Miss (actually another Michelle so we seem to have a few things in common - don't suppose you're marrying a Simon as well??!!!)

here are a few other riu RM brides...you can get a hold of them and compare notes.

Hi Michelle, No, i'm not marrying a Simon. Mines a Phil. No problems with bombarding me with questions. I'm the same so I am happy to help in any way I can. You don't need to get your birth certificate translated. They do that in the resort. You just need to get it legalised. I think it takes about 2 weeks. I've not sent mine off yet. It has to be a full birth certificate though with parents names on it. The riu wedding website in the faq section tells you what you need to take paperwork wise. I think I will take my dress in the hold. We fly with My Travel (but booked the holiday with Thomas Cook) so My Travel are saying i'll have to pay for extra luggage if it goes over the allowance. The bridal shop said they will pack it for me in a small suitcase so should be ok in the hold. I have my parents and brother and Phil's parents coming out with us so very small wedding but thats what I wanted. Any more questions feel free to ask and if your stuck for a photographer we could take extra photo's for you (but cannot promise good quality!!). Michelle

Little missmalibu...I'm from Rugby in Warwickshire, my fiancee and I are getting married at the Riu Yucatan in February. I like you, have been very confused as to what paperwork is needed etc, and receiving conflicting information, but after speaking to the Thomson Wedding department, I am satisfied I have everything in order. You need both full birth certificates (originals). You then have to get them photocopied, stamped and signed by a solicitor. Then you have send them off to the Foreign and Commonwealth office for them to be apostiled. This was £19.00 each. According to Thomson you do not need to worry about translations. You then need to take both the the originals and copies with you. When you arrive in Mexico you will receive a tourist card. Keep hold of this. Also you and your partner will have to have a blood test. The new Thomson Weddings brochure has come out. In the old brochure it stated that would have to have an affidavit to declare that we both single, but that does not apply anymore. Also, if you or your partner are adopted, widowed or divorced then extra rules apply here.

Hiya, I was not aware of the requirement to have the birth certificate copied and stamped by a solicitor. I have just contacted Thomas Cook who say that you get the original certificate legalised and just take this with a photocopy with you to the hotel. No need for a copy stamped by a solicitor. The Riu website also says all they need is the original and legalised copies of the birth certificate. No mention of a copy stamped by a solicitor and the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel has also confirmed this with me so i'm not going to get this done. Hope this helps. It is very confusing when travel companies are telling different stories (eg Thomas Cook have said the cert needs to be translated before I go, but both Thomson and Riu wedding co-ordinator have said not required).
