Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan- just got home today! |
|
I will write a thorough review but for those of you curious, we had a great time. The resort was not perfect but it was great for our family and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. I will try to get a review written in the next day or so. In the meantime, I am happy to answer any questions. Report as inappropriate |

when you say the resort wasn't perfect what were the main problems? Report as inappropriate
|
No real problems, more minor things... -small rooms, hard beds, didn't get very cool -none of the dining areas (except a la carte) were air conditioned -everything was buffet which got old (except for a la carte which you have limited access to) -pool was dirty -staff wasn't overly friendly (as compared to other resorts we have been to) However, please know that the resort surroundings (jungle) and the beach far outweighed the other stuff. Will we go back? Probably not. But the primary reason is because there are so many other nice resorts in that area to enjoy and experience. If you are considering this resort or already have a reservation, go and have a great time. I will try and be more comprehensive in my review. Report as inappropriate

Is the pool bar just available for adults (18+) or everyone? Some of the reviews have caused confusion. Thanks! Report as inappropriate

leaving this tuesday - do you get beach towels provided? is a hairdryer available in the room? what trips can we go on? boat trips?? do men have to wear trousers for the speciality restaurants or can they get away with wearing 3/4 trousers?? thanks Report as inappropriate
|
Austinha, the pool bar is adults only. Report as inappropriate

The pool that the bar is in is adults only also. Yes they provide towels. Men need long pants in the Italian, Japanese and Mexican. There are hairdryers in the rooms. Not sure what you mean by what boat trips can you go on? Report as inappropriate

When you check in you will get a towel card (for each member in your party) and can check out towels each day. If they get wet and you want to change it out during the day, it is never a problem. All the specialty restaurants require long pants for men. Howver, both the steakhouse and the tropical (caribbean) are open air and I saw most men wearing shorts. A lot of European men were wearing 3/4 pants and it didn't seem to be a problem. There are hair dryers but even with my short hair, took forever to use to dry it. If it's important to you, I would bring my own. When I am on vacation, I am not overly concerned with my hair so it didn't really matter to me. We did not do any excursions but there are several that you can take (for a price)- deep sea fishing, diving, sunset cruise, etc. Report as inappropriate

As far as the pool bar is concerned, there is only one swim up bar that and it specifies no children. On one occassiopn, I did see a kid down there but that was it. Every other time it was adults only which is best because it can get a little rowdy! Have fun! Report as inappropriate

Hi sunshinedaydreams -- thanks for taking questions. I was wondering if you had any abnormal bug problems in your room and on the the furniture? I know it's the tropics and there will be the odd unwanted critter around (okay, maybe one here and there), but I was interested in knowing if you encountered a problem with bugs (I have a phobia to things that resemble ticks, such as bedbugs, etc.). Also, did you come across any unexpected "positive" things that added to your experience -- seems lately we keep hearing about the negative ones. I'm heading there in July with my husband and I'm trying to stay positive. I think sometimes over-informing oneself can actually be detrimental. Thanks for your time. Report as inappropriate

Just an fyi, we were there last Nov. and the open air restaurants were not a problem because it was not that hot. I am afraid in the summer that is an issue. We found the staff to be great, especially the entertainment folks. We also loved the jungle and the beach. As for the beds, we thought they were great, I still don't get the hard bed thing...we must have hard beds at home! The swim up bar is down stairs and I never saw kids in it. There is also a new walk up bar right on the beach, they built it while we were there. Report as inappropriate
