Beautiful resort. But very very large so be prepared to do a LOT OF WALKING or waiting for golf carts to take you around. We stayed in building #60 which was closest to the beach and buffet restaurants and farthest from the lobby with a private pool. We had a partial ocean view facing the jungle and our rooms were very quiet. I had the chance to see both Presidential rooms which were in our building. These rooms are absolutely beautiful and very large with a living room, dining area, very large bedroom, 2 bathrooms one which was very luxurious and kitchenette. There were 2 balconies facing the ocean, 1 off the living area that was huge with comfortable furniture and a large jacuzzi the other off the bedroom. They were not ready for occupancy yet but I asked the price and was told about $300 U.S. per person per night over and above the rate of the junior suite rate. The Iberostar Paraiso resorts are approximately 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen and 30 minutes from Cancun. We did not take a collectivo because I found due to the area of the resort it was not convenient and did not want to stand by the busy highway in the middle of no where. We did take advantage of the Iberobus that took you to Playa del Carmen free of charge. If you take a taxi to Playa del Carmen it is approximately 180 pesos. There are rates of taxis posted at the lobby in the Lindo. To Cancun it was between 300 and 340 pesos. We asked our Signature rep about renting a car and she did not reccommend it due to many accidents that have happend. I just got the feeling that this was not the only reason not to rent a car but did not pursue it further. If there is anything else you would like to know please feel free to ask.

Uschi: To be honest I would probably upgrade to the Lindo and save yourself the extra money money than stay at the Maya. The Maya is beautiful but you can use most of the facilities from the Lindo anyway. I have heard a lot of people very happy with the Beach too but you have a limit on the facilities and restaurants you can use. I am not sure what the little dock is my guess is it was once a pier that got damaged. I am sure someone out there can tell you.

DOCK: That "little dock" is half gone so far as I know. Hurricane last SEptember.

MAYA VS LINDO: I booked the Maya, but I am beginning to think I made a mistake. Only two restos at the Maya and the private swimming pools are off-limits to Maya. I booked it for the "exclusivity" and it seems that its not all that exclusive.

FLOATS FOR POOL: Bring the cheapest ones you can find. Then leave them there.

PRES SUITE: WAS IT REALLY $300/NITE OVER THE JUNIOR suite. Find that hard to believe.

The Presidential Suite was just an estimate I was given by the front desk. But it sounded like the rates through the hotel were more expensive than booking it as a package at home. The man at the front desk told me the regular rate for a suite at the Maya was $328.00 U.S. per person based on double occupancy and that the Presidental Suite would be approximately $300.00 U.S. over and above extra per person.

We purchased a phone card from our signature rep. For $10.00 u.s. you got 20 minutes. But be aware that you have to pay a connection fee of $5.00 everytime you make a phone call regardless if it goes through or not.

Was there not a pay phone you could use so you did not have to pay the resort the $5.00 connecting fee. Everytime I have been to Mexico I have just used a pay phone.

Apparently there is a payphone somewhere outside of the resort. Where I do not know. These resorts are in the middle of nowhere. The closest thing to the resorts would probably be the Mayan Palace or Maroma Resort. It would be a fair distance so we found calling from the room convenient. They did put the charges on our room and had to settle up. It is a good walk to the highway from the Maya but I am sure when you arrive your rep can tell you where the payphone is.
