the reef hotel-safe choice for girls 17/18 yo??

I think that we have decided to book THe Reef for my daughter's spring break trip. I have heard that it is close to some nightlife spots-is this true?

Also Bexhill on sea.UK-poster-did you feel that your daughter's were safe to walk around Playa del Carmen during the day? One of my neighbors, who has been there, said she would not let them wander day or night around Playa del Carmen-unsupervised. I have never been in Playa so I have no idea what to expect. Any thoughts??

my daughters are 20 and 18 they went to playa last spring break (we are from the Uk) as they are studying in the US. They were terrified to go out alone at night and didnt feel too safe during the day. I was worried sick the whole time they were there

Thanks for your honest feedback. My husband and I will be with them, but my daughter is of course wanting her "space"-which concerns me. Was there anything in particular that contributed to their uneasiness? Thanks

I think it is much better that you are with them, i think it was all the alcohol being consummed by people all day non stop, they had lots of lads approaching them and following them around, i think there were plenty of people there who enjoyed the attention and my daughters are by no means shy but i think they generally felt uneasy with the whole situation.

I was in PDC last year and never felt concered for my safety. I would be up early in the morning and go for a coffee at one of the many coffee house's on or off 5th or afternoon shopping by myself. In the evenings, many people are out on the street till early am hour's. Evening hours is when everyone is out and about. We also took a walk up to the highway and checked out some local tire stores, paint shops, and dealerships. We even got a tour of a small body shop. These guys spoke not one word of english and we not one word of spanish, but somehow they knew what we wanted and gave my husband a tour and let us take pictures. You just have to use common sense just like we all do in our own countries. I am bring my 17 year old daughter down this winter and her freind. I have no worries if they go into town shopping for the day. Also you will see many tourist police at little stations along the street's so if you feel threatened at all you do have help.

Thanks for the input. It is a little scary thinking about the "what ifs", but unfortunatly where ever we go, we have to think about the girls and if they are going to be safe. Thanks again.
