I'm going crazy online trying to decide on a resort that will please our family. There's 8 of us: 2 young married couples, a 15 and 25 year old sons and my husband & I. We want a great beach and clear water (no seaweed). Fun beach activities, (beach volleyball & soccer), nice pool and good food.

If you've stayed at either of these propeties (Quetzel or Barcelo) could you advise which would be the best choice. Or do you have another resort we should consider?

This is our first trip to the Playa area and will really appreciate your suggestions!

I have been to Barcelo, and would advise against it. Another resort to consider is the Crown Paradise. They have a lot to offer, the food is great, and they even have a mini waterpark for kids. Good luck!

I stayed at Iberostar Quetzal a few years ago and it was wonderful!!! Pools are huge and the beach was perfect....clear blue water, very calm, didn't see much seaweed...beach was definitaly the best of all the resorts i've been to in the riviera maya area. i highly recommend Iberostar Quetzal!

JulieBugs,

Why would you advise against Barcelo? Now I'm nervous, we booked a week in March there with several families and all of our kids (age 4 through 16). Thanks for your input.

Don't know about the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort - but we stayed at the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal they are the same hotel basically, they have two separate front desks but share the same grounds, pools, restaurants, beach, etc. You will be the star for picking this hotel! They won't be disappointed. It's a great place for singles, families and kids. We were there for our anniversary last January and are going back in February. It's an awesome place that everyone will love. Don' t know anything about Barcelo Maya Beach Resort, so I can't comment.
