 Beach at the Riu Playacar

Any updates on the beach at the Riu Playacar? I had heard that the Mexican government was going to be "rebuilding" the beach in March. Has this happened? Are we still looking at sand bags and a large drop off to the beach, let along palm trees getting "taken out" by the waves?

One of the owners of my company just returned from the Riu Palace and he said the beach was pretty much gone. He said that they have sand bags in the ocean to try to get the waves to carry the sand up and over them to create a new beach. He said palm trees were falling into the ocean due to the erosion. Sorry for the bad news....we are staying at the Iberostar Lindo on April 21st. and I am hoping the beach is better farther north.

The beach at the Riu Playacar still had a very large dropoff. At the Riu Palace they were still tying down palm trees and moving back loungers.

I spoke to various workers about the beaches. Some of them are unware of the condition of the beaches. I did speak to one manager and I had asked him if the government was going to try and fix the erosion like they did in Cancun. He told me that they were not, the hotels would have to do it themselves because Playacar is a private gated community.

Favre,

Love the name. We returned from the RIU Playacar on March 10 and the beach was bad. But they did begin to rebuild the beach at the Viva Wyndam next door when we were there. They told us that when they were done there, they would move over the the RIU Playacar next.

We were there in Novmeber and the beach was gorgeous! IT is amazing how fast they change.

Confused M,

I'm still a little confused myself. Were the sandbags and fallen palms you spoke of at one of the Riu Palaces or the Riu Playacar? They are different resorts and have had quite different beach conditions. I am really interested in any news about the beach situation at the RIU Playacar as well--- from this last week. We leave for there next week.

Thanks everyone!

Patsfan,

When were you at the RIU Playacar? Were there still sandbags? Any beach area down below where the volleyball net was? Could you walk the beach to the Yucatan through the Viva Wyndaham next door? Thanks.

cozy.

watch for my review of Viva Maya. I posted it last night along with a bunch of beach pics looking both north towards Riu Playacar and south to Riu Palace.

We were at Maya March 8 to 21

Confused,

We just got back from the Lindo. It has a great beach large in length and width.
