We are traveling to Isla at the end of Feb and wondering what the North Beach situation is like since we are staying at Seahawk Diveshop. Does anyone an update on if the beach has begun recovering from the erosion issue?

Just spent the last week at Ixchel Beach Hotel on north beach. Beach is fine, no signs of erosion. Is shallow for about 50 to 60 yards out from waters edge. When I say shallow I mean 18 to 24 inches.

2 months ago, the east end near Buhos and Nabalam was very eroded. There was a lot of sand in front of the condos.

The east end may have changed since then.

Erosion at the east end of Playa Norte has not yet recovered. The west end is still wide. Minnesota sunseeker, please realize that conditions today are no indication of conditions in six weeks. Could be worse, could be better. Why worry about it? It is what it is, and it will be what it will be. Wider in some spots, narrower in others, but there will still be sandy beach all along Playa Norte.

Just got back from 1st trip to Isla, so I have no comparison. THe beach around Nautibeach, where we stayed, was fine. Seemed very eroded by nabalam and surrounding area-- lots of unsightly sand bags around there.

We were there in December & parts of the North beach are really in bad shape. We were shocked. This was once on of the top rated beaches, and it wont be again anytime soon. There are spots where the sand drops off to nothing where it once went out for 20 yards, sloping down. One bright spot is that the western corner is now more built up then it ever was.

I hear what you are saying.

Hopefully there's plenty of sand for all the sun worshipers.

I plan on being there the 3rd week of Feb.

Signed,

I have heard that the apartments above the Diveshop are quite nice. We are planning a trip in Feb. also. Do you have a contact for them?

Good news for beach bums.....North Beach is paradise! I was there for the first time last week and hated to leave. What I heard was that North Beach gained a bunch of sands, compliments of Wilma. The sands is fine, powder white. The water is turquoise and clean. Picture a Corona commercial. It was also the warmest ocean water I have ever been in. The south end of the island may have suffered some damage, tho.

Please make a trip report when you get back. I am sure I am not the only one who wants to hear what the accomodations at the Seahawk Diveshop are like.

Have a wonderful, wonderful trip! P.S. I met many Minnesotan's at the beach bar!
