Wow Isla is busy in Feb.

We decided to go back to Isla in Feb. We have been looking for a place to stay for 3 days. Finally found a place. We rented a house on the windy side. Looking forward to listening to the waves crash at night. We will be on Isla from Feb. 6th to the 16th, and then to Cozumel until the 24th.

Maybe Carnival is a factor if they observe it.

Yes, Carnival is 8 - 12th so it's right in the middle of your stay. Should be a lot of fun, Mark. Glad you found a house :)

I wish we could travel that much!!! We save, and save, and save to travel south only once a year. Wish we could do it more!! Maybe when we retire in a few years. Glad you found a place.

It's snowing in Nova Scotia today. March 16th can't come soon enough!

Where would one find out more information on Carnival - and maybe any events that would be scheduled for that time?

Last year was the first year that they have announced the dates of Carnival more than a month ahead! The festivities are more or less the same each year with different groups of dancers featured each night in the zocalo, like kids groups one night, women's groups another, kings and queens night, etc. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons there are parades of all the participating groups. Normally they start at the Posada beach and wind up in the zocalo. Last year some events were held in the dome in LaGloria because of rain. The groups also fan out all over the island for informal dance demonstrations. The specific schedule will be announced about a week ahead of the start of Carnival.

One other great event-the weekend after Carnival here the groups from Holbox come here and dance at various downtown corners and probably other places around the island. They don't use pre-recorded music as do the island groups but provide it themselves with drums and flutes. Great fun!
