We are looking for a quiet low clean key scenic place to stay that is not too touristy that is a short walk to good swimming beaches. We want something under $100 a night for 1-2 weeks. We prefer a little off the beaten track.

Check out Caribbean Casa, it is behind the Naval Base on the water. We have had several friends who have stayed here & loved it
I don't know if you're only interested in a private residence but it not I would recommend La Joya. It is incredible! I thought it was one of the most charming places that I saw on Isla. I think it only has 10 rooms.
La Joya sounds wonderful but unfortunately it is sold out. We are doing this somewhat last minute. Thanks for the suggestions. I will check out Carribean Casa.
Good luck. I'm sure you will get more responses on here tomorrow too. Caribbean Casa sounds nice but I think it gets booked well in advance too.
Another place that comes to mind is Playa Media Luna's rustic rooms. The rooms themselves do not have views but the property is on the Caribbean side & downtown so you are a quick walk away from North Beach but have the quietness of feeling like you are far from town. Enjoy your time on Isla.
I saw that you said you had knee issues in the yoga thread so I thought I'd mention that Caribbean Casa is not exactly a short walk to the swimming beaches.
Check out Mar y Sol below. If you email Mornings in Mexico she will get back to you very quickly. Right on the beach, outside centro so it's quiet, and a short cab or golf ride away downtown.
We love and recommend Su Casa, they have a great website site and are right on the beach in a quiet area.
Capi's or Zina's...located in La Gloria

Swimmable beach is about 1/4 mile walk.
Edited: 12:48 pm, November 30, 2012We love Casitas del Mar and have stayed there twice.
If you like to walk you can easily head over to Playa Lancheros for swimming. If you don't like to walk, the water's too rough for swimming there. Beautiful to look at though!
Also Margaritaville is really cool but it's between La Gloria and Punta Sur...I'd want transporation (cart) if I was staying there. There's also a short cut across the island (dirt path that fits a golf cart) and you end up at Villa La Joya.

The calendar on VRBO shows they're jam packed. :-(
