When in January TX1chica....?

I stayed at the Casa Del Mar for a week in late January a couple of years ago. The weather was mid 70's to 80 or so during the day and in the 60's at night. I was happy to have a windbreaker & sweatshirt after the sun went down!

The hotel was clean & the staff was friendly. No frills but it had everything I required at a pretty good price. The restaurant was OK also. I ate breakfast there daily but can't comment on any other meals. I understand they now have an all-inclusive option. Might be a good idea if the price is right, but there are soooooo many other places to eat! If I recall, Ernesto's is just a short walk away on the other side of the street.

Having said that I will admit that I'm staying at the El Coz when we arrive this Sunday (12/17). Last time I came down with my son and a group from our local dive shop. This time the wife and 19YO daughter are coming also. They don't dive and are not quite as adventurous as we are. I hope to change that, though!

Stayed there in August and will be going back again in January, and diving with Papa Hogs. Everything said before about the hotel is true. And Mike and Margaret at Papa Hogs are wonderful. Take advantage of the Papa Hogs Cafe after diving each day. They'll probably have a diver's special of the day. No matter what it is, it is always good. We usually end up having both breakfast and lunch there each day we dive.

Papa Hogs is awesome, both for diving/snorkeling and their food.

Oh yes, and the owners rock!!

Great feedback. Thanks. We will be their Jan 19 for 4 days. I am really looking forward to the diving. We did the resort course in May at Coral Princes then came back home and got certified. Diving in the lakes around here is a lot different to our short intro course in Coz. I am a little worried about depth (don't laugh). In the lakes you can't see much when you go deep so I have not been past 40 ft. Also, my husband is not a diver so I am hoping it won't be to cool to snorkel.
