They just opened November 1st and I'm thinking about booking for 2007. They closed in April, 2005 and re-built over the last 1 1/2 years. I've stayed at the Park Royal Cancun several timesand enjoyed it immensely. If the Park Royal Cozumel is similar, Ill like it. I know the area pretty well - been to Playa del Carmen by bus and ferry and to Cozumel 3 or 4 times on cruises.

Please, anyone who is going there in the next month or two, please post.

Thanks.

Me too, I must say I wasn't really blown away by the canned photos, they improved/modernized the place, but at one time they were talking like this would be like a Marriott or some other high end property. It looks pretty much like the same place to me only newer. We snorkeled here summer of 2005 eventhough the place was being demolished, the snorkeling then was not that great, the coral around looked like it was dying and the fish weren't nearly as plentiful, that was pre-wilma, we did love this place too, especially Luis the ok/dokie guy he was so nice. I must say that we did the El coz last year and everybody and the hotel were great, it has some things the PR didn't have one of them was really a better view and it was closer to the room. The only real complaint I had and its small I know is that it is da#$ tricky getting in and out of the water at the Coz, they need some steps and a rail. This might not be important to young folks but I'm 50 and so is my wife and we got bad knees and its tricky. There was a sandy lagoon at the PR, so much easier.

But the PR seems really high to me compared to rates for the Coz. Besides Antonio and theother folks at the Coz were all really nice to us...

The El Coz has a real nice place to get in the water now. We snorkeled for hours at a time. Had a ball.

My friend came back from here on Saturday Dec 9. She loved this place much better than the Cancun one. We are both Royal Holiday Members so I guess we are captive audiences. I am worried that the Cancun Park Royal will be horrible especially the food. We leave this Saturday Dec 16, 2006 for a week. I am very nervous it will be horrible. Not for myself or husband but for the 5 other folks traveling with us. I got the weeks by paying an assessment fee to Royal Holiday so it is costing us only $672 per couple for the week. Taking that into perspective how bad could it be. $336 per week per person, $48 a day. But a dump will still be a dump.

Micromanage, could you give us some more details on what the Park Royal Cozumel was like? I too am thinking about booking there, but I have only ever stayed at the Presidente so I am not sure - the pictures I've seen look very pretty though! And the prices at the Presidente have gone so high since the renovation that I am considering staying someplace else this trip.

Thank you for any info you can provide!

I don't have any pictures since I didn't go there my friend did. I saw her yesterday and she said after the hurricanes they did it over in first class everything. She said the rooms and grounds were outstanding and she is not easily impressed.

"I am worried that the Cancun Park Royal will be horrible especially the food. We leave this Saturday Dec 16, 2006 for a week. I am very nervous it will be horrible. "

My friend and I were at Cancun Park Royal in September and had a blast. The buffet was varied and we didn't eat the same meal twice over the week. Lots of ceviche (my favorite), mexican dishes, fruits and salads. Oh by the way the desserts were to die for. I often had 2 at a sitting ( I was on vacation) :-)

Staff were fantastic, especially Eduardo and Guillermo from the lobby bar. Please say hello to them from Lynne and Cindy in Canada.

The adult pool is great and long walks on the beach fantastic. I am an early riser and was always up and showered by 6 am. When I went downstairs to sit in the loungers and watch the sunrise, staff were everywhere cleaning and getting ready for the day. Although they were busy they would often stop to chat and ask how I was liking my stay.

The rooms are okay and very clean.

I heard complaints from some people staying there, but we really had nothing to complain about and it appeared that many of the complaints would have happened no matter where they went. My advice... don't worry be happy!

That hotel was taken over by Park Royal folks 1 year 8 months ago with the plan to re-build to a higher standard. It is considered one of two "up-scale" all inclusive hotels on the islan, the other being the Cozumel Palace.

I've toured the hotel near completion and since it has opened for business again. It opened with 40% occupancy but has 100% sold for January 2007, they claim.

The operating company, Park Royal, is a member of the Costamex family and of course Royal Holiday Club is the time share sales company of that Mexican Stock Exchange listed corporation.

I knew the hotel well before having consulted for the previous owners on some projects about 9 years ago. It was badly run down and one building never rebuild after 1988's Hurricane Gilbert.

Now, it is a jewel at the edge of the Caribbean. It's is very, very nice and during it's first months of operation you'll see extraordinary buffets and service as they try to achieve those "good reviews" on which they all base their futures.

Go for it!

Has the Park Royal's long-time bartender that always replies "OKEY DOKEY" come back to work here? Even when the Park Royal's managment, staff, and time share workers offered service that was far less than to be admired, that bartender has always been my favorite.
