Lizards in rooms at the Iberostar Cozumel? |
|
I was told that there is a problem with lizards in the rooms in the Ibersostar Cozumel. According to the story, the lizards live in the thatched roof and find there way into the top story rooms. Has anyone experienced this problem or is it just a legend? |
|
I have not stayed at the Iberostar but.... on every trip I have had to Mexico there have always been lizards around the outside and or in the rooms we have had. Usually they are little gecko type critters that cling to the walls and can scurry away really fast. They do not bother with people and they eat lots of insects. Really you should not worry about them. It is good to have them around. Means less bugs and bugs on the other hand will bother people. I happen to think they are cute!

They are geckos and are not harmful, they are actuall;y good to have around as turquoise said. If you are going to Cozumel, get used to them. They are everywhere and don't you dare try to kill one!

Yes the little geckos are very common--usually I have several where I live. I am not a fan of thatched roofs--while they may give it a nice touch, they can also hide much more than geckos!

Hypelady, I stayed at the Iberostar the first week of Aug this yr. We had a top floor and never had a gecko in the room at all. From what I understood that used to be an issue before Iberostar actually put real ceilings in the top floor rooms. Before the hurricane the top floors actually had thatched roof ceilings in the top floor rooms. but since the remodel after the hurricane the owners put ceilings in and the thatched roofs are only on the outside for looks. Now, in the mornings as I sat out on the balcony to have my morning coffee, I would see the small geckos on the wall going up into the thatched roof, however, it only makes the whole jungle atmosphere that much more awsome. To see something that won't hurt you and that you don't see everyday makes the experience wonderful. I simply got out my camera and took lots of pictures. They won't bother you as they are afraid of you. Now there are large iguanas that run around the property freely but again they stay away from the people and are a great sight to see. Don't worry and go and have a wonderful time. Good luck..
