Airport to Hotel Transfers...Cab or Book ahead

We will be arriving into Cozumel airport and staying at the Cozumel Palace. Should we book transfers with our package or get a cab.

Could someone explain the procedure at the airport, not to get caught up in the timeshare stuff. I was on the plane going to PV and informed the guy next to me what to do and he found me and was so appreciative, the timeshare stuff can really catch you off gaurd.

Thanks

So I bought an apple package, transfers included...my understanding is I walk right past the sharks in the airport, out the door to a waiting apple rep.

Am I hearing you all right, that now I'm gonna be delayed getting checked in, dragged to some timeshare crap or otherwise dogged by my apple ground transportation person or some other lobby shark all week?

Forest-

Just look for the guys with the Apple signs... They will hook you up with your shuttle. No need to worry. Much of this thread was simply a few locals trying to clear up some confusion with the current situation, that regular taxis will not be accessible for a bit, until the Ayuntamiento finishes up some much needed drainage work on the Airport Boulevard.

But Robert, I just checked Google Earth and it clearly shows no construction. (just joking, hehe.) It also shows a lot of piers that people have been claiming were erased by the hurricanes so maybe those hurricanes are a myth, too. <g>

I'll be there tomorrow. Maybe I'll take a few photos of the area and upload them to my website next week.

Very funny ReefRat ! You are right, if Google earth doesn't show the construction, it must not be there! And the piers, no problem! And if a map says you can get a taxi, you can! Yeah, sure!

Its good you will be here--you can see for yourself! And do take the pics--you know a pic is worth a thousand words!

Enjoy your trip here--and be careful walking through all that construction to the taxi! ha ha

I will ask the two who have an issue with me several questions..

Is there two way traffic on the airport access road

Do the shared vans travel from the airport to the main drag on that road

Do taxis travel on that road.

If the answer to all three is YES then you can catch a taxi just as I have in the past. That does not mean that it is the best option for people who do not have transfers. But if you can walk in the road as in the past watching for traffic then you can do it. Tis not a joke but a fact. And we know who the attackers here are do we not Robert.

Really, both Betsy and myself have given the facts---and we are here and are aware of the situation. Really no reason to argue with someone who has no knowledge of the facts and continues with pointless posts.

From all the information that has been given by the "Locals", the only thing that one can conclude is that you would have to "wheel" your luggage an extra 2 blocks to catch a taxi. You can "wheel" your luggage anywhere you can walk. If not, pick it up. If you can not pick it up, enter "packing" in the search box above. It will give you beaucoups of tips on how to pack efficiently. One problem, you may have to scroll down through 8 threads to get to the right one since I recommend this so often.

We all recommend this often when it is a GOOD option--but now it is not. I will not argue with some one who has no useful information but continues to try to confuse with information which is of no value to anyone. We will all await your next outdated "tinyyurls" link.

CoPilot-

To answer your question, the last time I was there, which was July 7th, the road was closed to all traffic for the last few blocks. So traffic had to be rerouted through the back streets (the first being a one way going the wrong way), so all traffic had to go two blocks south (through a neighborhood), one block east, and two again north, just to get to the ring road. This is not much of a way for the taxis to make a living, so they're just not around as much as they were. So, if you could actually carry your luggage along and then across the rock and dirt road (or if you're willing to really beat the snot out of your luggage, you could drag it), you could get over there, and then walk out to 65th, where you might get lucky, or you might walk a ways before a taxi showed up. But you couldn't walk down Airport Boulevard because it was closed to all traffic, even pedestrians (there was a large crane laying big drainage pipes).
