Airport to Hotel Transfers...Cab or Book ahead

We will be arriving into Cozumel airport and staying at the Cozumel Palace. Should we book transfers with our package or get a cab.

Could someone explain the procedure at the airport, not to get caught up in the timeshare stuff. I was on the plane going to PV and informed the guy next to me what to do and he found me and was so appreciative, the timeshare stuff can really catch you off gaurd.

Thanks

You can get a van ticket once you leave customs or walk out the door where you catch a van and walk about a block to the main airport access road and wait a few minutes for a taxi.

As far as timeshare folks, just smile, answer no one except the booth person selling tickets for the van and the guy outside who assigns you to a van (unless you take a taxi).

Toothfairy2----------the van rates are listed on this forum under "Airport Shuttle Rates".........so do a little search...........also as far as walking out to the road in front of the airport goes to catch a taxi for less, you'd best disregard CoPilot's suggestion because it is NASTY there right now ..........(he doesn't live here and so has no way of knowing)...........I drove by there today and could barely get my car through the dirt piles and potholes........there were no taxis in sight because there is no place for them to even pull over and the dust was awful..............don't know when you're coming but if it's anytime soon, take the shuttle.............hopefully the road construction (which by the way has nothing to do with hurricane damage) will be finished soon..........Betsy

Do NOT get transfers included in your package, if you do, you will have to deal with "lobby sharks", the ground transportation representatives who are hired to oversee the transfers, then dog you all week at the hotel.

Book the air/hotel, and buy the transfers at the airport.

When you leave customs walk through the doors and turn to your right. The shuttle/taxi booth will be against the far wall. There were sharks everywhere but I just looked straight ahead, smiled, and said no thanks as I continued walking. Once I had my shuttle ticket in my hand they left me alone.

Does the Shuttle/Taxi booth have a sign? What is the approx charge to get to town from the airport? We are planning to stay at the Cozumel Palace.

Thanks again

As Betsy says look under "Airport Shuttle Rates" to find the cost. And CoPilot is wrong on his advice--he is not here and has no recent visits here to really know the current information. The timeshare sharks are awful and , as Antonio says, its is best to wait and buy your transfers at the airport to help avoid these awful guys!

Tsk tsk folks. The dirt that some are scared of do not prevent a person from catching a taxi on the airport access road. Try it sometime. You may like it.

And the time share sharks do not have to deter you from moving about. Act like you know where you are going. If that fails, smile and say no thanks.[

We have probably tired it more often and much more recently than you , CoPilot. If you havent been here recently, which I am sure you havent, you cannot possibly know anything about the condition of the road in front of the airport--or you would understand. Its one of those things you have to be here to know about---you won't find it on a website.

Often you give good advice but when you really don't know because you haven't been here recently, just admit you really don't know!

OK let's cut to the chase. Are you saying that it is not possible to walk to the road and catch a taxi? Are you saying that taxis are not stopping to pick up people in front of the airport? Is there any local pressure currently cracking down on this practice?

I was at the airport three times today and I am TRYING to say that the last two blocks of THE AIRPORT ROAD are now officially cordoned off. There is a ten foot trench where they are laying whatever they are laying, which means all and I mean ALL vehicles now have to pass through the little neighborhoods to the side to get into town........NO MORE pretty airport road for the moment----------it is a total construction site!!..........the traffic circle that you used to be able to walk to is now a dirt road with barely one lane to pass on..........and my car was suffering getting through it!! It is dusty and filthy and rocky and impossible to wheel luggage and there was NEVER a taxi in sight.........all this is fact.

CoPilot-----you aren't here!!! So maybe it's time to let some of us who actually live here, speak our minds with helpful advice that doesn't involve your "tinyyurls".............and maybe you should refrain from answering so many questions when you do not know what you are talking about..........you may tsk tsk all you like, but the folks listening to YOUR advice at this moment will NOT be happy when they attempt what you suggest.
