 Luxury hotel for diving

We want to go diving in April 2005 and stay in a luxury resort. Is Playa del Carmen too far from the best Cozumel dive sites? Where would fellow divers who also want a very nice place to stay recommend? We don't care about nightlife, just want a place with nice rooms, good service, and a great dive shop.

The Coral Princess is very nice. My husband and I stayed there last April and it's wonderful. We also are not particularly interested in nightlife. We're not divers, but there is a scube shop right on the property, Pepe Scuba, which many people on other boards have recommended highly. Right in front of the Coral Princess is a coral reef. No walk-in beach, but a ladder lets snorkelers drop right onto a reef. I know that the dive shop takes groups out right from there as well. It's certainly worth looking into. The CP is north of town about a mile and is very quiet. The staff is stellar and very attentive. This is not an all-inclusive, though, so you might want to continue looking for that. Beautiful rooms and so clean!! Google "Coral Princess" and you'll find their website. I think it's www.coralprincess.com, but I'm not positive. Good luck. Cozumel is a wonderful place. We're going back next Sunday, the 16th.

Yes, Playa del Carmen is too far and inconvenient. Stay at the Intercontinental Presidente and dive with Scuba Du, this is the best hotel, with one of the best dive shops. Although Pepe Scuba is good, the Coral Princess is far from being a luxury resort, more like an average hotel/condo.

Antonio's advice is always excellent and rates very strong consideration. I fully agree that you don't want to waste your time travelling back & forth to the mainland. The Presidente is an excellent resort and as well has some of the best snorkelling around it. It is close enough to town that taxi fare is cheap also. If you want a high end All Inclusive then check out reviews of the Occidental Grande. It is the highest rated AI and is close to the majority of the dive sites. It does however cost lots to taxi into town. Playa is nice but the diving is in Coz, so you may as well stay there. I think you will be happy you did.
