We were supposed to go to Cozumel on Nov 12-19 and stay at the El Cozumeleno Resort. Does anyone have any updates about that resort yet???

Antonio should provide a report soon.

Antonio said he and the hotel people walked the grounds and figure the hotel may be up and running by Christmas. I believe he said it was mostly cosmetic damage. I feel bad because they were doing a lot of remodel-work when we were there in mid-Sept. I've been reading the cozumelmycozumel forums and there's a lot of info there.

I just called the hotel and they told me at least 10-20 days before they will take guests again. Our honeymoon was scheduled there for next week and now we are hustling around with travelocity and continental to reschedule. I have been getting a lot of the run around.

We were also scheduled for the El Cozumeleno Nov. 12. I'm sorry, but I knew there was no way they would be open for our dates and re-booked to another Island on Saturday. I didn't want to have to scramble and find no availabilty.

We went to Cozumel on our honeymoon, so havea special place in our heart for the Island. We have since returned once and were looking forward to enjoying another trip. However, at this time, we feel going before they are ready we will be in their way. They don't have the time or engery to entertain/wait on tourists while they are rebuilding. I know that they need our tourist dollars, and as soon as they are able to recieve tourists, we will definatley re-book another trip.

I have been on and off hold with Travelocity for like 5 hours. 1 guy tells me he can give me a full refund, then puts me on hold, then we get disconnected. Another guy says he can only refund 800 (we paid 2000).

I am thinking I am just going to have to charge this back on my credit card and never book through Travelocity again.

Damn, I was scheduled to go 11/7/05 and stay for 7 days but it looks like it will be a no go. I have been trying to contact Continental Airlines Vacations but it is almost impossible to get through. I was really looking forward to going with my wife. Good luck to everyone trying to reschedule.

This is the American Airlines Travel site for the El Cozumeleno. If you scroll all the way to the bottom you'll see that they're not accepting check in's until at least November 30th.

We went through Travelocity, too, and we're having the same problems getting answers from them or from the Travel Protection Plan Ins that we purchased. The last advice we rec'd yesterday from an agent w/Travelocity is to wait until 11/1 to see if the airline (Continental) has come out with another policy regarding flights to Cozueml. She said we could cancel (and forfeit over 50% of our $) OR we can wait until next week to see what other options the airline may have for us. But it sounds like there won't be anywhere in Cozumel that will be safe or ready to tourists.

We have 21 people scheduled to stay at El Coz from Feb 22- March 1st 2006. We look forward to heading down there and pumping some money into the economy. From everything I have read it looks like they are hoping to be open in December. I guess we will have to wait for Antonio's report.
