looking to go in Feb and want an adult hotel, no kids... as we are leaving our 4 at home and want some mommy-daddy time...beach front villa type...want a low key week of snorkel, fishing charter, non tourist thing...went to Tulum stayed at Cabannas Copal last year but did not get to snorkel, except got took at Xel-Ha as a 'snorkel', would never go there again...want a great beach, sand, and rest this time. Anyone have locations, charters and people, and web sites to recomend? What side of the island and resturants to go to? If there is another island in the carribean that is better please let me know, I will change plans for a good beach and snorkel!

I think you had best forget Cozumel, it won't be able to meet your list of important things. I think every resort will have kids, and the area that is beach is not a good area to snorkel. Besides that the beach is not one of those perfect white sand beaches that are hard, it is a soft sand beach and in the water is either grassy or dotted with rock etc. Best that you check along the Mayan coast and maybe visit Cozumel for a day of snorkeling.

You may want to look into Presidente, it has a very nice white sandy clean beach. The snorkeling is great either off one of the small piers or you can go in thru the beach area. There will be some kids however, it is not an AI so not near as many as other spots. There are plenty of great restaurants in town and it's only about a $5.00/ea. way.

I also stayed at Secrets Capri over in the Mexican Riveria, it's an all adult spot. It has a nice beach & pool. I believe you there is some snorkeling there but I was w/my 18 yr. old who'd rather sun than swim. There are lots of places nearby you could visit that offer snorkeling.

you could check out isla mujueres, it is the little island about 10 miles off cancun, it has some of the most beautiful turquoise water in the caribbean, and has some snorkeling spots. it has beautiful beaches, and is pretty quiet and laid back. you could check online for adult-only hotels, or ask your travel agent. dominican republic has awesome white sandy beaches, and is supposed to have good snorkeling, but not sure about their accommodations, as far as adults only. the mayan riviera would also be an excellent place to look, peurto morelos is a sleepy little fishing village about 20 miles south of cancun, it has some of the best snorkeling around. in fact, that whole reef goes from like puerto morelos all the way down to belize. i've heard akumal is also fantastic for snorkeling! go online and check some of these places out, i'm sure you'll find a place that you will enjoy. if you decide on coz, try not staying at an AI, as alot of people traveling with kids choose AI's to keep the kids happy. good luck!

Cozumel is fantastic for snorkeling. We have encountered very few children in our 3 years of visiting. Most waterfront hotels you can just walk out the door into great snorkeling. We loved it by the Coral Princess. In front of the Barracuda and El Cid was nice when you were in but the boat wake was so bad it was hard to get in and out.

This year we will be at the Sol Cabanas and they sound really quaint and quiet.

The snorkeling is so great. I recommend getting some good equiptment of your own to use. Start against the current and if you get tired you can just drift back.

REnt a car and drive around the island. Stop at Coconuts for fajitas and the view. Their fajitas are really good and reasonable and their view is spectacular.

If money were not an object I would do a jungle jeep tour. Go to Chananab on a day when there aren't any cruise ships, if possible.Excellent snorkeling. Honestly I am just as happy right infront of our hotel.

We loved the submarine. Saw sharks(which I never see while snorkeling!)a turtle, beautiful coral, Barracuda, it was magnificent.

The people are very friendly and appreciative. I recommend learning and using some phrases in Spainish which is not necessary but much appreciated.
