No......better to trade them in for paper money...it is after all Mexico and not the United States.....plus in case you haven't heard about the latest baggage limits, how much would that actually weigh!.....you may end up paying that much for baggage overweight!....hahha........Betsy

How can someone "trade them in for paper"?? The poster is in England and no English bank will accept foreign coins. Those coins can only be used in the U.S. so I suggest you plan a trip there in the near future.

Wrong!!!! I always take rolls of quarters -- the merchants need them to give change to the cruise ship passengers. Best rate of exchange is at Aqua Safari - either at the Cozumel Palace or on the waterfront between Calles 5 & 7 Sur. They'll give you dollars (which you probably don't want) or pesos at your option.

DS2 is absolutely right. USD quarters are like gold in Coz, since cruiseship passengers pay in dollar bills and don't usually want pesos as change. Bring USD coins to any waterfront merchant, and you'll be a true hero.

thats true-there's nowhere in england that will change us coins into paper money of any kind-which is why i was donated these coins (plus loads of smaller denomination coins) in the first place.I was hoping there might be slot machines or something that i could use them up in, i'll take them anyway and see if i can ofload them somewhere along the way.thanks for the advice.

Hmmmm...let's see......this guy is in CZM for one day and is going to spend an hour or more running around trying to change quarters to paper?.....call me crazy but I guess I can think of better things to do with so little time, but that's just me.......good luck-----Betsy

If only one day....by cruiseship? The shops near the cruise pier will probably be happy to have them.

If I may add one more thing since I am concerned about the statement above that "quarters are like gold".....everyone offering ideas above is talking about using them up in waterfront stores and cruise ship stores.......and if that is where you choose to hang out while in CZM, then so be it. HOWEVER, I would hate to think that because of this thread, people will now think that it's fine to tip the locals with quarters, because it's NOT.......they are useless as tips and you would be making the recipients have to go through all kinds of crazy hoops to get anything back in local currency......and one more thing----I find it incredibly hard to believe that there is absolutely NO PLACE in England to change quarters......come on....use your imagination, have less weight in your bags, and actually enjoy Cozumel without having to be on a mission to use up $60 bucks.....perhaps your flight stops over in the USA en route?.........Betsy

Agree with Betsy--no way are your quarters like gold in Cozumel except in a few touristy places. My locals friends sometimes accidentally come up with quarters from various sources and they want me to take them. They have no use for them.
