Park Royal - A La Carte Restaurants Worth it?

I'll be going to the Park Royal at the end of the month, and am very curious about the on site restaurants.

I've been reading that you have to line up super early to get reservations, but haven't read anything about the food choices at the restaurants. What are the menus like - very limited or pretty extensive? Are they expensive (what's a typical meal cost)? It seems that there's a wide variety of opinions on these, as would be expected with food, but any info on variety/cost, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone? Sorry i do not have any info for you. You could try reading over the reviews. Also I know someone on here (sorry don't remember who) has about 80 wonderful pics of the resort. Hope you find the info you want!

We were there in Feb. and went allinclusive so I don't know the prices. The line up for the alacartes goes quite quickly, but get there before 11:45. I was not impressed with the food or service in the alacartes, so if you are paying I would go elsewhere to eat. We just stayed and ate on site as it was already paid for. It's not that bad, for all inclusive, but I would want to pay for it. The buffet was ho-hum, but service good for drinks, etc. However the place itself is lovely and we had a good time.

TJY... I think it is Cicopo who has the PR photos... I have seen two separate photo albums from different forums, so I can't be sure, but I know that Cicopo spent some time touring the place and posting the photos. His reviews are very thorough.

The link to the photos are in this message as well as a few comments.

I was under the impression the Park Royal is an All Inclusive ONLY now, and if so I suspect you need to make reservations for the specialty or alacarte restaurants, which is likely what the line up is for, not the actual restaurant.

Soontogo...maybe I'm misinformed. We're staying there (all inclusive package) at the end of the month. It's my first time at an AI, so forgive me, but I thought that the a la carte restaurants were paid for separately, not as part of the all inclusive. I thought the only restaurant that was included in the all inclusive package (if that makes sense) was the buffet. From the sounds of your post, a la carte only means that a reservation is required, but it is included in the all inclusive price, is that correct?

Thanks for the replies...the place looks really beautiful, so my girlfriend and I are pretty excited.

We were there at the end of January. We went to the mexican, italian, and caribbean restaurants (not sure if there were any other ones!)- the italian was almost like eating frozen dinners (although I am not the most adventurous eater so other things might've been good), I liked the other 2 much better. The nightly dinner buffets left something to be desired, but the service everywhere we went was awesome!!

Mariner107: The alacartes were included in our package and I would guess if you went all-inclusive then they should be included on yours too. I would double check with your agent or tour company. I do agree with the previous post about the Italian tasting like it was a frozen dinner. The Med. was better (good grouper) and we did not try the Mexican. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone - I used bookit.com, so I'll have to follow up with them, but from the sounds of it, the a la cartes are included in the overall price. I'll be sure to post a review when I get back!

I'm sure the a la cartes are included with your AI package. You need to line up as previous posters have said to make your reservation each day.

As far as what's on the menu - a lot of the items are very loosely translated into English, as you'll see, and sometimes they make sense, sometimes you can figure it out with a little imagination, and sometimes there is just no way you can get it. When that happens and you ask your server what it is, be prepared for alot of hand movements and weird facial expressions. It's kind of amusing but at the same time, you won't come away with any better idea of what it was. You can take a wild leap of faith and order it, or pass it by.

There is enough on the menu at any of the a la cartes that you can find something you want to order, and there are also salads, antipasto and desserts on the buffet table in each restaurant as well. But portions may not be very large, so ask your server and don't be afraid to order 2 main courses if you don't think it will be enough.

I did the all inclusive PR vacation a couple of weeks ago...oh how I miss it...but anyway, I booked through Bookit.com and yes the ala cartes are included. I actually had the Mexican (not my favorite) and the Italian (which I really liked). However, I did see people who were not guests come into the Italian rest. while we were there, so I almost wonder if their ala cartes are open to the public also. I know that the waitstaff were absolutely falling over themselves to wait on them.
