I'm going to the Park Royal Cozumel in a few days and was wondering what the area is like outside the resort? Are there restaurants or bars within walking distance or a short cab ride? Can you give me specific names and directions? We're looking for the touristy chains like Senor Frogs for bars, and some authentic Mexican mildly priced food.

Thank you so much!!

There is not much right outside the resort. You can walk to town, it's 3 kilometers, will take you a good 40 minutes. Walk down the driveway and turn right and keep going and you'll get there. We never turned left so I can't tell you what's there. There are some hotels along the way with restaurants in them so you might want to consider checking those out, and I know there's a bar/dive shop across the road and down just a little bit, don't recall the name. They advertise happy hour specials I think.

Senor Frogs and Carlos n Charlies are in the same general area by the pier downtown, if you're looking for *touristy* also Fat Tuesday is further on downtown across from the ferry dock. Same with Palmeras (they make a mean margarita, watch out!). We like Casa Denis (do a search on Google for this, not sure if I'm allowed to post their website here, it's the first hit you'll see) for authentic Mexican.

Hope some of this helps, enjoy your stay!

Laura

Thank you that was exactly what I was looking for! Casa Denis looks nice, and it says that if I mention that I read the website that I get a free margarita! That's always nice!

And I'll definitely be taking a cab downtown.

Thanks again!

Ernestos is right across the street and they advertise Happy Hour and Fajitas. That is all that I really saw until you got into downtown.

Just got back...6 stayed at Casa del Mar and 2 at Park Royal. Ernesto's is right across the street and they have a good happy hour but we thought the meal prices were pretty high. We ate downtown every night and all the food was fabulous. Try El Abuelo Gerardo, Casablanca, Chozas or Costa Brava. We never had a bad meal.
