 Just back from Hotel Cozumel

We just got back last weekend from 9 days at Hotel Cozumel.

We've stayed here twice before, it wasn't much different. The beach club is all redone and they now have a jacuzzi next to the ocean. The hot tub by the pool was actually hot this trip, which was kind of nice during the first few days when the weather was a little chilly. They now have coffee makers in each room and new air conditioners. The cable went out one night, but it was fixed by morning. The food was still ok, but we ate dinner in town every night. It's good for the price you pay, but we decided that we are going to pay a little more next year to stay somewhere nicer.

We lost our camera somewhere in the hotel, so if anyone finds a digital camera with some crazy drunken pictures, let me know :)

Restaurants......

Prima, Guido's, and Especias were all good.

We had heard good things about Casa Denis, so we tried it, but we had horrible service and the food wasn't that great. (I'm not sure if we were there on a bad night or what because so many people say they really like it?)

We also tried the Wynston and LOVED it! It's definitely a little more expensive, but all four of us thought our meal was wonderful. The service was excellent and the view was awesome.

Chankanaab looks great again, I was so excited when we saw an eagle ray when we were snorkeling.

They were working hard on Margaritaville, I guess it's supposed to open in mid March and Jimmy is supposed to be in town for the opening.

When I was there last August they had coffeemakers in the room but they didn't supply coffee, you had to buy it from the front desk for $1 each (or from a store). Is that still the case?

A number of people were griping around the pool about the chintzy nickel and dime attitude, more than the money itself. Why would a hotel owner spend so much money attracting customers and providing them with all kinds of amenities, then risk annoying them over a buck?

We stayed there back in 04 when we booked last minute and El-coz was full. We were sitting in the lobby waiting for a cab one day and some guy claiming to be a reporter from some America newspaper ask me if I knew that the place was owned by Cuban investers. I wonder if that's still true.

they "give" you one packet of coffee, but if you wanted more you needed to buy one for a dollar.

Another thing that seemed weird is that they now offer room service.

The menu was sparse and if you were to order room service, the hotel has a 10.00 charge for bringing it up to your room, even if you are on the AI plan. Seemed kind of cheesy and Half A$$ed if you ask me.

The thing that got me pretty mad is that from 5pm until 6:30 they have no place to get any food. All of the 3 resturants are closed at 5 and then the dining room doenst open till 6 or 6:30.

I got off a late afternoon dive and wanted a snakc before our late dinner and couldnt get anything.

I've stayed at Hotel Cozumel several times and its been nice, but it did seem that this time they are trying to keep cost down and to the guests that means, it seems cheap.

Next time we are going to be staying someplace else.
