I'll be there in 2 1/2 weeks and am curious too...all I got so far is the following:

* Time Share vultures everywhere

* good snorkeling (near sunken plane)

* really good breakfast and so/so dinner

* top shelf liquor

* really nice rooms

* close to San Miguel

* beach across the street, small but very nice...

wonder if I have missed anything???? Anyone...Anyone????

tivan hit the nail on the head. The only thing I would suggest is getting in the water to snorkel on the left side by the jacuzzi (as you face the beach) or if you are going for a swim bring aqua shoes (I always scoffed at the idea but our last couple trips to Mexico have shown me I need to buy some = ))

Pre-wilma this place was to me what Cozumel was about, the hotel itself was a mess, we stayed in the time share building because the real hotel was closed because Ivan I think had torn it up. At any rate just to reminiss the facility was really built for a much larger occupancy, since they were down to the small building you had this huge pool and geat snorkeling area all to yourself. I really wish you guys could have seen this place back a couple of years ago. Granted the food wasn't great but the snorkeling was just great, you walked in and could see coral, fish everywhere, and snorkel boats were bringing people to where you already were for free. At any rate where the jacuzzi now stands there was a giant beautiful tree that had loungers under it, its up on little rise overlooking the lagoon and you could sit there when you got tired and watch the others snorkel and Luis the bartender would make you dirty monkeys all day long. The beautiful cruise ships were just down the way. They had things like canoe races, my kids had a blast. I think they fixed alot of the hotel issues, just wonder if there's any charm left. It's kind of like the song they paved paradise and put up a parking lot, at any rate I have a beautiful picture of that little place under the tree on my desk and I hope there is little of that charm and great snorkeling left for you. Please take some pics especially of the snorkeling area/fish, we are trying to pick a hotel for summer and we're wondering if it was just a memory or if it is anything like it was...

Thanks for the information, were going for the first time and are truly excited. My fiance' is great with pictures and will send them to you with a report when we get back.

Do you recall how far from town we are? Is it walking distance?

Maybe further huh Morgy? A lot of the sites say 2 and a half miles and I bet it feels like more in the heat. Walk it early. We planned to walk before we got there but never did....just too hot and easy to get a cab. But there were plenty of people walking....bring water.

2 1/2 might be streching it a little....I'm too old to walk that far in the heat....I'd hit the dirt before I made that far...Heh... Suppose it depends on where you are walking to in town...I was talking from P.R. to that dept. store across from the Palace.

Naw, it was only one cervesa and two cigaretts, so it couldn't have been that far... :o)

2.5 miles should get you close to the square.

That's about right...it would take another whole cervesa to get that far.

I would say very close to 2 1/2 miles Park Royal to the main square, and it takes a while because in general you stop to check many things out along the way. I walk it regularily while there, and will this trip too, camera in hand. As mentioned it can get hot walking it, but there are refreshments available along the way or carry water with you.
