I have rented on two trips. I always waited untill i arrived and then take a taxi downtown. Executive car rental and Smart, you can pick up and return executive right at the airport. A Jeep is best, about 200.00 us for the week . Make sure you go to the back side of the island...

Dan,

I have rented from CP Rental. They are located on the northeast corner of the square downtown. They are locally owned and they also have a website.

We always pay a little more and get a car with A/C. Some friends just returned yesterday and rented for about $29 a day.

Best advise I can give is to look at several rental sites. Sometimes you can make a better deal online. If you decide to rent when you get there take enough cash. You can make a much better deal. If you use a credit card the rental company is going to get hit with fees and the exchange rate so they can't make as good a deal.

Whatever you do be sure and take the liablity insurance. You don't to find yourself at the police station having to pay cash to cover someone's hospital bill. There are tons of people on scooters and bicycles.

Your US insurance will not work there and if you use a credit card they will not pay off immediately.

We rented a jeep from the onsite rental agent and paid $79 for 24 hours so shop around.

If you rent from CP rentals for 3 or more days you can get 50 percent off. Print their coupon and take cash or no deal.

Hope this helps with your planning.
