 Riu Caribe vs Riu Cancun

I am trying to figure out if Riu Cancun is any better than Riu Caribe? The rates are not far apart and so I want to get the best value! I know that you can visit both during your stay..but, does anybody know which resort has the better rooms/beach/food/decor/location?? Thanks!

We recently stayed at the Riu Cancun and can tell you that we really enjoyed this resort. We were told by the manager of the resort that the Riu Cancun is considered a slightly higher end property over the Riu Caribe. When we visited the resort (Caribe) we felt that the level of service we received was slightly better at the Riu Cancun.

The major difference between the Caribe and Cancun is, beside location, the Riu Cancun gets more guests. This is due to its popularity/publicity however the rooms are all ocean view so this may have something to do with it. We visited the Riu Caribe and observed that the beaches were roughly the same for cleanliness, but the Riu Caribe had a wider beach.

All in all you can't go wrong with whichever resort you wind up staying in.

Thank you ! ....I have one more question...where is the Caribe? I have stayed at Riu Cancun and loved how everything was a 5 minute walk...but I don't remember seeing the Riu Caribe during my stay...is it close to nightlife like the Riu Cancun??...

Hi,

Riu Caribe is pretty much next to the giant Mexican flag if that answers your question.

Stayed there last june, all i can say bout it is that its the best hotel i've ever stayed in. Lots of reasons for this but in a nutshell staff absolutely fantastic from the cleaners to the entertainment staff. Also, just the general atmosphere of the place, everyone was having a great time.

Went to the Riu Cancun once, from what we seen of it, it was basically the same as the Caribe although it had more of a grand look about the place as is visible from the outside, but we got the impression we were staying at the better hotel.

One small downside is that you need to take the bus or a taxi to the clubs unless you like long walks.

Hope this helps.

I have stayed at both and I would say that they are pretty much the same class of hotel. You are going to get what you pay for at both locations. I think it comes down to what you are looking for. The difference between the two is the location and the amount of personal space. The Riu Cancun had the advantage with the location. It is within walking distance to most of the night life, and the Riu Caribe is about a mile or so down the road so you have the bus which isn't a big deal. It only cost .65. The Riu Caribe has a lot more personal space. The two hotels are about the same size as far as # of rooms, but the Caribe has 3 times the amount of land as the Cancun so you are not as packed in. I think the pool and beach are a lot better at the Caribe, and you don't have the problem with the sun blocking the pool and beach as you do at the Cancun. I think the food was better at the Cancun, but it is still pretty much all buffet.

As I said, it really comes down to what you are looking for. The good thing about staying at either of them is that you can use the other so you get to take advantage of both.

I think I am going to go with the Caribe ! Thanks everyone for your advice!! I think we will be happy with Caribe because its cheaper, it has good reviews, and we can go to the Riu Cancun if we dont like the food/pool/beach ! Thanks again !!!
