Cancun Forum: What to wear to dinner at the Ritz (Club Grill.)

From one fellow NYC'er to another, on every Cancun business trip we have taken, without exception before we go there we are told to dress "Resort Casual". There is always the disclaimer that jackets are to be worn by men to dinner functions. Since I travel there so often, I own cotton "Miami Vice" style jackets, so this isn't an issue for me.

I never wore, nor found it to be inappropriate when others wore short sleeve button down, polo shirts and loafers. Kaki pants are okay too in my opinion however that being said, this is the Ritz Carlton you are asking about. I suggest just to be on the safe side, have him pack at least one, more conservative outfit with a light material jacket..

Based on the response I will bring more dressy attire or just dine in the more casual restaurant and possibly venture out of the hotel. The menu looks so good at Club Grill but I am not sure I will be in the mood to dress up!

Wow, I am very excited for you staying at the Ritz. You will have a wonderful time. And if your not big on getting to dressy there are other choices in the Ritz and a cab/bus ride away. I highly recommend Laguana Grill, very Romantic and the food and service is outstanding. And if you guys are in the mood for some good local taco's just go right across the street from the Ritz there is a partystore/taco stand and the taco's are awesome. All the locals, police, beach walkers and hotel employees eat there. Also it's a great place to get snacks and drink way much cheaper than at the Ritz. But if your staying on the Club, you won't have to worry about food or drink, it's all provided.

We just got back from Cancun yesterday and had the pleasure of staying at the Ritz. We ate at the Club Grille for their Christmas brunch and although they stated "casual elegance" attire, we did notice some people really focused on the "casual" part because some were wearing shorts and beach type sandals. Although I would say that most did a good job at following at dressing up somewhat. I don't think I saw any men wearing jackets but then again, it was brunch not dinner. But I don't think the Ritz turns anyone away based on their attire. But if you don't want to stick out, I would suggest following their dress recommendation.

I think the outfits you have picked out sound lovely and will suit the Club Grille just fine. Most importantly, enjoy the ambiance, service and food - they were fantastic!

Jackets in Cancun....My Husband Has never had to wear a Jacket in Cancun to any event or Restaurant Slacks, Pants a nice shirt will be fine for anyplace. I would not worry about a Jacket you can get by without one no problem.

Now I was surprised to see a Guy in Laguna Grill on Christmas Eve in Boardshorts and a ribbed white cotton tank top at 11pm, he just looked ridiculous. I think he felt it to, people just stared at him like what are you thinking????

I can just see the guy you described cunspin. What a fool. I have people coming into my place with PJ's on. Mostly women. I'm jealous. But some of the outfits we see OMG.

Did anyone eat in the Lobby Lounge? They say "light meals" but looks like plenty of food for dinner one night. My husband is a big fan of sashimi and would love the raw bar.
