We will be going to Cancun with our teenage sons, aged 19 and 16. If we are with the 16 year old, will he be able to get into the clubs? We are not asking that he be allowed to drink just to experience the night life.

We also wondered this when we went to the Moon Palace last April and wanted to go on the Party Hopper and my son is 18 and daughter is 16.We didn't think we would be able to go because of her age but we were told we could go and add alittle make-up to her.But also at the sametime they told us if it was a 16yr boy they wouldn't let him go.Now that made me worry alot.We did end up going and they did try to serve her drinks and we had to keep a very close eye on what was going on and keep her close by.It was a good time for all of us and to experience the night life of Cancun but would never allow my daughter to go to Cancun on Spring Break. It was just to scarey to see what we seen while in the clubs.
The clubs admitt 18+, if they are drinking or not. But I have seen alot of underagers get in the clubs without showing I.D. If you go with them they might not ask. I have seen them ask for I.D. 3 times in all the years I have been going to Cancun. Good Luck.
The clubs are not the place for those under 18.........first of all, what parent would want to expose their children to that kind of adult entertainment. Yes, they can get pretty wild. Second, as someone above the legal age, I've earned the right to be there. I do not like to "party" with children any more.
On the other hand, there are some places (not the big clubs) that would be appropriate early evening for that age group. There is another thread around here over the last few days that gets in to this more. But I would have no problem taking them to Carlos and Charlies for supper, maybe Senor Frogs.........places that serve food as well.
I agree with Zsa Zsa. A 16 year old might or might not be able to get into the clubs, depending on whether they feel like enforcing the rules or not. (And let's face it, like everywhere it's always harder for an underage male to get in than an underage female.) I'm sure you could take him to Carlos & Charlies or Senor Frogs in the early evening and stay until things start to get crazy - which might be sooner than you think. It's fair to say that Cancun nightlife revolves around alcohol and sexual behavior. I'm not sure why you'd want your 16 year old to "experience" that, so my advice is not to stick around any of the clubs or bars much past 9:30 or so.
I agree with Stratton and ZsaZsa, stick to "clubs" that you can enjoy as a family.....Hard Rock Cafe (early evening), Senor Frogs (again early), Pericos, Margaritavilla, Carlos&Charlies. Where they serve food, you can usually enjoy until things get too crazy. I know that "kids" under 18 get in but I can't imagine allowing (and certainly not wanting) my kids to ahve experienced that when they were younger. They're both over 21 now and make their own decisions on that front. So far, they've been responsible decisions. The only one I might consider at 17 (but not 16) would be Coco Bongo because it's such a spectacle.
There's too much to do and have fun without pushing it. Enjoy!

They are right. If I would have known what I was going to experience we would have never went.Guess that is why I said I would never agree to my kids going to Cancun for Spring Break. But at least we found out even though the hard way.
Thank you for the information and for the critiques of my parenting.
My kid won the hot body contest at one of the clubs...I think it was Daddy Os. He was seventeen.
:-)
d&g's mom,
As long as you are with them whats the problem it would be far worse if your Kids were running of behind your back and going to clubs. With you there you can leave if things get a bit wild.
A lot of kids in England are going out to clubs and pubs at 16 I did ,there young adults of course they want to experience the night life as my own 2 children did as long as you inform them of the does and donts I cant see the problem.
CoventryJet - You're quite right and that is why England rules the world today.
Oh, whoops, my mistake.
