Subject: Cabo Alto

Location: Veracruz, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico, North

America

Title: Bad choice

At first this hotel was good but the problems began with a really bad

shower and bathroom and the restaurant closes at 5 pm. then you can eat

at the restaurant in the Azucar hotel next to Cabo ALto but IT WAS ALSO

CLOSED! no one told us they were closing and there are not many

restaurants in la Costa Esmeralda. Also no one told us that breakfast was

included.

Rooms are too old.

Hello Mocamba,

I'm curious, you said there were not very many restaurants in la costa esmeralda, did you mean near where you stayed or throughout all of costa esmeralda? Also, was it just the hotel that you did not like or did you dislike the entire trip?

Thanks for your input, decent criticism can be hard to do. Especially if you feel that your money was not well spent.

I had a completely different experience. For the price I have not found a nicer hotel in the state of Veracuz. You can spend $150 or $200 for the same type of service and property. The rooms are HUGE with living room area, big kitchen and even a dining area.

The property is BEAUTIFUL...the nicest on Costa Esmeralda.

The shower was the best I have ever found in Mexico. The restaurant/bar was open until about 9:00 (this was during spring when there are more tourists). But you have to remember this is not a place to come drink in a bar or eat in resturaunts until late. Why go to a restaurant when you have a HUGE kitchen and can buy fresh fish and produce from the town next by. That's what costa esmeralda is all about. Regarding the bar/restaurant...it is really nice over looking the beach. They even let us bring our own drinks to the bar/pool area. The restaurant I didn't try, but looks to be about average...they do have free breakfast in the morning which is more or less taken for granted in nice hotel in Mexico.

This hotel caters to Mexican tourists so if you wanting something that caters to American expectations you may want to go to a resort city...not Costa Esmeralda...this is truly a Mexican style resort area therefore some things will be different, such as knowing that breakfast is included, these type of hotels will never tell you anything, it assumed you know the routine.

They do not have a lot of tourists here (along the whole coast) so they can't stay open until late (none of the hotels have bars etc open late). Fine by me, I have everything I need in the room with firdge and stove etc.

Anyone thinking about going to costa esmeralda...remember it is not Cancun, and is not the US. It is a little more primitive, and even the luxury resorts may not feel like the 1st world.

There are many many hotels, motels and cabanas to choose from. Most range from about 30 to 60 dollars with a few luxury hotels. Many will be completely alone when you drive up. They will open any property for you if you want to stay there.

Cabo Alto is expensive-luxury range. But I have stayed in many places along the coast and this is the ONLY luxury property worth the price (about $85 US for 2 people).

I think there are maybe 20 good restaurants at Costa Esmeralda, maybe more than 50 but that i consider good restaurants only 20. It´s the first time i read someone doesn´t find good places to eat there.

I know this because i was born at costa esmeralda i go there really frecuently.

About the hotel, i haven´t been there, but i know this hotel was built 4 or 5 years ago, and there is always people there, most of the time full, many people goes there for weekends or vacations, so everything sounds strange.

Sorry for the mistakes but i don´t speak english very well.

Carlos
