Regular fashionalbe clothes can be very expensive, although crappy polyester stuff can be very cheap. Locally made traditional clothes are very reasonable, such as cotton shirts in the Mitla market for 50 pesos. Bring good running shoes from the US. My wife adds that comfortable nice-looking cotton clothes will be expensive. Don't waste your time here shopping for nice clothes you want to wear in the US, apart from typical Oaxacan clothing. By all means visit the cotton textile village, but not for nice clothes for "home." Sandals are fine here, but again, you won't find the quality with any significant savings. You can buy inexpensive cowboy boots, though. When I travel from here (I'm a Oaxacan resident) to Toronto every year, I make a point of buying knock-off birkenstock sandals at Walmart for under $10, and bringing them down here to use. Finally, a top quality cotton mens' shirt here will run from 150 to 350 pesos, but again we're talking Oaxacan style, but nevertheless nice, comfortable, and in this case wearable anytime in the US. It's by coincidence I know these prices, because yesterday I took someone touring and was doing some pricing for them in a couple of places (Mitla market and a good quality clothing store in the Benito Juarez Market).
