Actually first time to any Latino country too. Would appreciate an itinerary review, general comments, suggestions, ideas, et al.
For every good reply, I will donate $1 to Trees for the Future, which plants 10 saplings for each dollar. Or maybe I'll donate anyway too :)
I'm not much into Mayan ruins (skipping Palenque) but I like colonial history and architecture, walking around in cities and enjoying the contemplation that serene plazas bring with them.
Day 1: Arrive in Mexico DF
Day 5: Take flight to Cancun. See nearby sights and relax.
Day 8: Valladolid/Chichen Itza
Day 10: Goto Merida
Day 12: Overnight to San Cristobal de las Casas
Day 14: Oaxaca
Day 16: Puebla
Day 18: Goto Mexico DF and fly to Guadalajara.
Day 21: Fly to Mexico DF. Take flight back from Mexico DF
Do you think I should do Guadalajara or skip it and add more days elsewhere?
If it helps, I'm a twenty something male from the US, but born and raised in the developing world so not flustered much by many things. From the little I know, all these areas are generally safe and no travel warnings for them either.
