Mexico City to Cancun Airlines |
Can someone help me out? Any budget airlines that go from Mexico to Cancun? |
Volaris and Interjet fly from Toluca to Cancun and offer very competitive rates. Both also offer bus services from Mexico City. Volaris' bus is free and taken from their bus center near Televisa's offices in Santa Fe. Interjet charges for their mini bus services and have various pick up points. www.interjet.com.mx and www.volaris.com.mx to book tickets and get schedules. From Mexico City, Click Mexicana is supposed to be a discount airline run by Mexicana and services Cozumel from Mexico City, not Cancun. It also services a lot of the other beach resorts. Aeromexico and Mexicana each have frequent service to Cancun but you will be surprised at how expensive it is. The government recently closed down Lineas Aereas Azteca so stay away from them once they start flying again.
Any other options? Out of Mexico City Mexicana is the about $900USD for two. Out of Toluca Volaris about $460USD, but the bus ride to Toluca seems very long.
If you are in the Polanco area, the ride to Toluca could be shorter than to Mexico City Airport as you are less likely to get stuck in traffic. Mexico City Airport has an overcrowding problem and thus the low cost carriers do not yet service this airport.

Near Ecatepec. It looks like the Volaris bus leaves from Santa Fe. BTW, do they charge for that bus? Their website has info re the Bus station and parking price, but nothing re a fee for the bus ride. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
The Volaris bus is free for Volaris passengers. Just be at their Santa Fe office 3 hours prior to your departure from Toluca. You will get your board pass and all there. If you fly back on Volaris into Toluca, you can board the bus for free to Santa Fe if you keep your boarding pass. Ecatepec is not convenient to Santa Fe. Interjet has a bus from the Fiesta Americana Hotel on Reforma which is as close as you are going to get from Ecatepec. Cost is 85 pesos each way. Interjet has more locations in Mexico City for their buses and they charge a small fee.

Aviacsa (www.aviacsa.com) fly from Mexico City to Cancun and I saw some flights in September for 330 USD return (including taxes). Worth a look....
Thanks. Mexicana seems to be about $330/ticket on orbitz.com. Mexicana.com is about the same price for the ticket, but the taxes push it to about $900 USD for two tickets. Are there any discount travel websites based in Mexico like Orbitz? Would it be worth checking out a local travel agency? If so, can anyone recommend a travel agent based in Mexico City? Lastly, does I notice the Mexican website tend to differentiate between a payment made on a US based credit card vs a Mexican based credit card. Does that directly or indirectly effect price? Either because they charge more for the service or they are required to charge additional taxes? Thanks again for all your help!

Interjet just bought the Mexico City Airport slots from Aerocalifornia which did not pay its taxes and went away for now and hopes to return as a smaller airline. The rumor is that Aviacsa is next to disappear and Volaris is negotiating to take over their Mexico City slots. Interjet said it will start service from Mexico City this month so if travel is not immediate, keep watching their web site. Click Mexicana is the low cost airline or supposedly low cost airline operating out of Mexico City. A travel agent won't do better than you are doing on your own and you will pay a fee for an airline ticket issueance. They ask where you will buy the ticket from so they know to charge your card in pesos or dollars. You pay the same domestic taxes on domestic flights

Happy_On_The_Road is correct. There are no discount travel sites in Mexico. However I am beginning to think that purchases from outside Mexico do not incur IVA (at 15%) whilst those inside Mexico do. I don't know this for sure - anyone know for certain?
