Has anybody out there taken their specialized class? I'm trying to decide if I should attend Escuela Mexicana and take regular special classes or Academia Falcon and take their Medical Spanish class.

I'm traveling with my 10 year old daughter and was wondering if anybody has had experience with the children's program at either school.

Thanks.

Hello,

When my wife and I studied at Falcon, she took the "Legal Vocabulary" class as she is a lawyer. She enjoyed it. They seem to be very easy-going about holding any class you request. When she took it, she was only one requesting it but they ran the class and charged her the normal group rate.

As to the children program, I notice a few families during my time there and they seemed to really be enjoying themselves.

I am currently attending classes at Escuela Mexicana. My experience with classes at Escuela Mexicana are as follows:

1 Confusing switches of instructors every week as classes are being adhoc every Friday to meet incoming and current student requests. The teachers are competent; however, your classmate may not be, thus, the lesson may seem too slow, redundant, or off track. The class hours that you are in each week may not be convenient for planning activities= a class may be at 9am then the next at 11 or 2 in the afternoon. There´s still plenty of time to spend the rest of the afternoon putting.

2 From what I could see of the kid program, the first week here, there were no kids evident. The following week, maybe 6 children. It is really hard to say what experience your child will have because they may be the only one...as summer gets closer, I doubt they will be the only one, which should make it fun for the children.

3. The location of the school is by far better than any of the other school: less than a 5 minute stroll to the Jardin Union. This is where Teatro Juarez, cafes, restaurants are located, though not the best restaurants. In the center of town, you can be entertained by clowns performing for a crowd on the steps of T.Juarez. I accidently walked passed a run down part of town, embarcadero market?, and saw a sign for Don Quijote school....the first thought was: I´m glad I´m at E.Mexicana.

4. You may find that taking private classes($15 for 50min) may be the best option for intensive learning purposes at E.Mexicana. The 50 min is really a fugde of 5 or 10 min late start on regular group sessions.

5. For the price, you accept the school´s flaws. Beware when paying, sometimes classes are cancelled for holidays, but no public mention of crediting occurs. You must bring that to their attention to get credit.

6. I have been told by another student attending E.Mexicana: E.Mexicana pays their teacher the best wages compared to other schools. Most teachers are graduates from GTO university. Some are better educators than others.

7. You can always try the school for one week and drop or continue as you feel comfortable. They are really great about no obligation. So don´t worry too much.

I hope that this helps your decision with school.

My children and I, Daugter age 10 and son age 12, are planning to attend a school in Gto this summer and are also trying to decide between Escuela Mexicana or Academia Falcon. I haven't been able to find any info. from former students with children in the kids program at either school. Please let me know if you do, or what you decide.

Thanks

srbw,

My husband and I have attended classes at Escuela Mexicana and were very satisfied with the teachers. There have been teenagers and even younger children at the school from time to time. The parents we met told us they (and their children) were satisfied with the classes.

You could email the school and ask if there is any way you could be put in contact with any former students whose children also took classes.

You could do the same for Falcon.

We have known students who studied at Falcon...some thought the program was great while others said it was not so good.

I think the cost of classes is about the same at both schools. The big difference to me is that Escuela Mexicana is located in the center of town (less than five minutes from the main plaza) whereas Falcon is located in a more residential area maybe a 20-minute walk from downtown (though there are frequent buses between the area where the school is located....La Presa...and downtown).

Hope that helps.

Cindi
