We are looking to buy a small house in Guanajuato city. Any suggestions?
The answer is more complicated than your question: where; how large; how much; for retirement; rental; etc.???

We are interested in a small house in the central part of Guanajuato city. Is there a reliable realtor we can contact or webpage we can check?
There are no "US" real estate agencies there and very little on the web. I am doing the same and have been told, over a couple of visits made this year already, that your best bet is to visit as much as you can, wander the areas you are interested in to look for signs, make friends and contacts with everyone you can that is a local and may know of something. It is much different than looking for RE in the US or even SMdA. As goes for most business undertakings in Mexico, you need to develop your relationships.

I don't know whether or not they are recommended agents. I only know that Ponce speaks excellent english.
I met Ponce on a recent trip to GTO. Although I was only interested in a little touring, he seemed like a decent sort.
While in GTO you might ask the yank that owns the coffee shop a short block up towards La Presa from Puente El Campenero, or check his bulletin board (best damn coffee I have ever tasted), or ask at the Puente Bar directions to Carl's Hotel/rentals (Carl lives just south of Calle Alonso up one of the steep callejones). You might also ask Berta the hairdresser just off of the south end of Puente el Campenero, she speaks good english and knows the locality (good for men's haircuts too, women's too I'm sure but I didn't sit for any). Also try the owner of the Health Food Store just across from Plaza del Baratillo. Speaks good english and can cure what ails you with traditional meds.
Sorry, this sort of turned into a list of who speaks english and might be knowledgeable, friendly and receptive to inquiries. Except for Angelranch, the parties listed are just friendly locals that hopefully won't be overwhelmed by inquiries.
it is my understanding that only mexican citizens can own real estate in mexico. you may be able to buy the house, but you can not buy the land under the house unless you can prove you are a descendant of a mexican citizen.
HOLA STEVE,
How is grand junction? I am doing some offroad racing in norway right now. It is nice over here but it is getting cold, time to go to costa alegre and visit my amigo El Pacifico.
Thanx for the promo. Send me a shout when you return to GTO and this time we can hit some trails in Santa Rosa.
By the way going to start the cabin project next year. I will send you info.
THERESA,
I know of 2 homes for sale by owner. Both are centrally located and best of all they have PARKING!
