It is a new school, first they set up in Cuernavaca and after a short time moved to Tepoztlan. I haven't heard any feedback about them except from someone who registered for the Cuernavaca program only to be told later they had moved to the small town of Tepoztlan. He was unhappy about that switch and wanted to be in Cuernavaca so didn't go. My worry is would they still be there when you plan to go!

Unfortunately, I can't help you too much, but I have sent a deposit and will be going to this school for a month this winter. I liked the website and facilities the school offered. I went to Tepoztlan last November ( 3 day trips from Cuernavaca) and really liked it. It's small and easy to get around, but you can take a bus or taxi into Cuernavaca for more activities. At the time I was not planning on going to Spanish language school, so I did not check into the school then.

Hola! There is nothing really known about this program. It is concerning that within a couple of months the school moved from Cuernavaca to Tepoztlan. The Experiencia Tepoztlan school has been around for many, many years though and enjoys a good reputation.

The Spanish Cat school is superb. The setting is marvelous and the academics are both strenous and a great deal of fun. The teachers, esp. Juan and Dahlia, are fantastic. My three daughters and I spent 2 wonderful weeks there this past August. Everyone that was there was so impressed that they didn't want to leave. I'll go back any time and any day. My 16 yr old was at Chac mool in Cuernevaca for one week and didn't learn as much as she did at the Spanish Cat. The Spanish course work is smart and progressive. Jaun had enough patience to take my 11 and 14 yr old from knowing no Spannish to actually speaking confidently. Plus, he guides fantastic weekend trips designed by the students.

Saludos,

Mary Fleming

My stay at the Spanish Cat last summer was fantastic. The accodomations far exceeded my expectations, and the teachers and staff were delightful. The language learning experience was great fun. My only complaint is that I gained a few extra pounds because the cooks at the Spanish Cat were amazing. I highly recommend The Spanish Cat language in Tepoztlan to those who want to learn spanish in a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere.

I attended the Spanish Cat language school in Tepoztlan in July-August of this year, for three weeks. Loved it! The school is in a pleasant villa, I had my own room with bath, although you can also choose to live with a family, as several other students did. My teachers were Juan Manuel and Dalia, and not only were they good teachers, but great people as well -- as was everyone associated with the school. Good food, prepared from scratch in the kitchen by Yani and Emma -- gorgeous grounds, tended by Colchis. Big bonus for me was that the beautiful town of Tepoztlan is small enough to walk all over, and I spent at least two hours a day on the cobblestone streets. Also climbed to the pyramid above the town, which was strenuous, but worth it. The daily mercado is great, and is huge on Sundays when the crowd from Mexico City comes to town.

Highly recommended!

I know A LOT about The Spanish Cat, and it's ALL GOOD.

I took my 15 year old son here this August for their language program. We did not know what we were getting into. We were very pleased with what we found. The people at The Spanish Cat are wonderful. The teachers are focused, hard working and dedicated. Plus, they have a way of teaching that makes learning fun. It's mixed up with fun and games and real life conversations, not reviewing verb conjugations. And it really works. I wanted my son to learn enough to be ahead in his 10th grade class. He is the star student. He did not want to go initially. After we got there, he loved it. In fact, we planned to be there for two weeks -- and he begged to stay three weeks. My son begged to go to school! It was a miracle.

The house where we lived, at the school, was beautiful and safe. The people were kind and informative. And the cooks were great.

The center of the village is about a twenty minute walk up a cobble stone street. I always felt comfortable making that walk. If you want to take a cab, though, it is about $1.50.

We got what we wanted, education and a good experience. Plus, we made a lot of friends -- from Tepoztlan and friends from the United States, who were there studying Spanish.

I recommend The Spanish Cat and plan to return next summer.

I just returned from a four-week stay at The Spanish Cat and it was sooo hard to leave! What a wonderful place, in every way! The school is located inside a gorgeous home on a huge property surrounded by a lush tropical garden. Yani and Emma arrive every morning to cook delicious Mexican meals, Kokis lives on the property as gardener and gatekeeper, the bedrooms are large with comfortable beds and private bathrooms, Juan Manuel is a fantastic host and teacher along with Liliana, Dahlia and others, Tania and Lucy help run the place and make The Spanish Cat feel like home, along with Dante the cat, and classes don't start until 10:30! What more could you want??? Okay.. during your downtime, you can lounge by the swimming pool and gaze up at the mountains of Tepoztlan, head to el centro on cobblestone streets to practice your spanish while you shop, climb to the Tepozteco pyramid for a sweeping view of this magical place, or hop on a bus or taxi to visit any number of nearby tourist destinations. There's even a great place to shake it up on the dance floor within walking distance of the school. There isn't one thing I didn't like about my stay at The Spanish Cat! It was all good! I can't wait to go back!

We just completed a week long course at the Spanish Cat in Tepoztlan. Some important things to consider:

1. The courses and teachers are absolutely wonderful.

2. The Spanish Cat facilities are ideal for a backpacker accustomed to staying in youth hostels.

3. That is, if youth hostels have sub zero temperatures at night with flimsy blankets.

4. Yes, you do have a bathroom en suite, but it is similiar to that of a youth hostel, adequate but somewhat less than spotless...

5. They will NOT accept a cancellation of the room if you arrive and find it unaccepable. The satisfaction guarantee on their website is an absolute lie. Realize this. NOW.. before you go!

I'm surprised by the last post. The house was always spotless during my four week stay and the beds were exceptional. The mattress was the most comfortable I've encountered in Mexico, the sheets and blankets were new, clean, attractive, and sufficient to keep me warm. I was there in October so it was chilly at night but not freezing. It may be a little colder there right now, but there was a huge linen closet outside my door with extra linens, and I'm sure I could've gotten an extra blanket if I needed one. I would "never" compare a stay at that home/school to a youth hostel or to a backpackers shelter. It's much, much more elegant than that description portrays... I stand by my recommendation. As for any refunds, I wouldn't know. I didn't need to get one.
