Fishing Trip with Kids

We will be in Zihautanejo March 23-March 30. My 8 year old son wants a fishing trip for his upcoming birthday, and we may have a few more kids of similar ages on the trip. I'd appreciate any references or words of caution (including "you're crazy; don't do it!") I am also assuming inshore would be better than deep sea fishing for the kids due to a potentially shorter day, more opportunities to catch (smaller) fish, and potentially less risk of sea sickness. Thanks for any advice.

The length of day is up to you Tom, you are the customer.

When the Tireds set it just tell your Captain to head in.

Define "a few more"?

If you are talking yourself and 3 kids a Panga will be fine.

If more you are going to want to think either a Cruiser or a couple of Pangas with an adult of so on each.

I would definitely go with in-shore for the kids. Lots of species to catch both trolling and if the opportunity arises with fish crashing bait then casting also.

Don't book with some Beach Vendor. Head down to the pier and check things out.

If you need a list of boats and Captains send me a PM and I will shoot you what I have.

Definitely do it..I was there last March and will be heading there again next week. Fishing was great...depending on the charter boat you used. I went with the one that Club Intrawest concierge recommended...best charter captain and mate I have seen. They worked so hard to make sure I caught enough. It was just my wife and I. Caught one Mahi-Mahi and released four sailfish. The kids will love it as long as they catch something. Don't go cheap..you get what you pay for...I saw a number of boat that were trolling just outside the mouth of the bay..obviously they didn't get anything. The fishing ground is about ten to twenty miles out. Gas cost money. Flat calm sea. Go enjoy..the pangas are fine and safe. Don't take too many kids...only can have one or two hook-ups at a time. Otherwise, lines will get tangled. Good luck.

Oh, I don't know about in shore..when I was scuba diving there, didn't see too many fish around....so I think off shore is better bet. Besides, we went out at 5am and was back in time for lunch at 1pm with the Mahi in hand!

We've taken the kids fishing inshore. We've caught bonitos and small jacks, primarily. We are considering off shore next trip, but we'll talk to our captain and find out where the bite is happening before we decide. Hope your kids have as much fun as ours!
