Trip report Zihuatanejo

I've always read and never shared but it is time.

Came last fall for the first time and will definitely return. However I will be more aware of certain things. Like hills and stairs. If you are older or a little out of shape dealing with these can be hard especially if you are in Z when it is humid and you are getting used to the heat and humidity. Loved staying on La Madera but will be moving towards hotels/bungalows NOT up on Eva Semana and not up the Irma hill. Loved the look of Villas Miramar, casa sun and moon, La Quinta de don Andres, all on a flat walk into town and to the walkway to the beach at Palacios.

And I have to say about restaurants recommended on TA someone is sure padding those and steering to weird choices. I mean Mi Chayito??? Really bad faux Chinese food that tasted of nothing but soy sauce. (had a very forgettable lunch there) And all the places with the overpriced frozen shrimp rolled in coconut. Or Banana's for breakfast that makes pancakes with a mix you add water to? and charges you extra for toast?

But La Condessa at La Barra de Potosi is well worth the trip for only the food if not for the gorgeous beach (my wife wanted to walk much further along it than I could LOL)

I looked forward to fishing and unfortunately went with a guide overrated by the "experts" on this board and while we caught some fish we were forced to take it to Otilias on Las Gatas to be cooked and there cooking was awful - battered and deep fried. Luckily we went with another captain the next week and were taken with our Dorado to Chez Arnoldos where all the preparations of the fish were gourmet delicious. What a find!!!

We'll be back for sure but with a different set of choices.

I imagine "Alaskagirl" will be showing up so as She loves Mi Chayito where I had possibly the Worst service in the history of bad service! Not once but twice in a row.

Why did I go the second time? I'm loyal & a bit stupid to my friends who wished to go. Never Again for poor food after waiting well over an hour..

PS And who EVER heard of a Chinese Restaurant who Does Not serve hot Tea?

We also enjoyed Chez Arnolds on Las Gatas last March. Great food and service, good location to enter the water for snorkeling. Alll the boardies talk about Otillias but there are other choices.

I would be interested in whom you fished with that you were unsatisfied with!

No one should be "forced" to take their catch ANYPLACE!

we had some bad meals on our trip to that had been recommended here. Let me recommend: A rotisserie chicken from either Comercio Mexicana or Bodega Aurrera! Had some good meals too, will do a trip report soon too tired.

I have never gotten a bad breakfast at Paty's or Margaritas. Or a bad dinner at Il Mare or Elvira on La Ropa.

I am sorry that the original poster did not have an absolutely amazing vacation. I also am sorry that they feel they were mis-lead in any way. However, please let me flip to the other side of the coin. Most people who ask questions here are in fact, asking for people's opinions which are, of course, based on their experiences. Now the original poster also has some opinions, based on their experiences, and has shared those opinions on this forum. That is a good thing, and thank you to that poster for taking the time to report back. So...many of us do in fact recommend many places at every opportunity- BECAUSE they were wonderful experiences and we want to share them with everyone. That is my opinion, and that is why I personally recommend the places that I do.

That being said, I do not disagree that there are probably some recommendations for places or activities that others do not like. We are not all going to like the same things. So somewhere that I think is the absolute best place for lunch, might be disliked by others who did not have good experiences there. This is what happens when people give opinions and it is normal and right. This is one of the main reasons for the existence of the forum, isn't it? For all of us to share our opinions and experiences.

I am afraid you are mistaken. Yes I do recommend Casa Adriana whenever I can. However, I also frequently recommend Villas El Arca de Noe on La Ropa- always if someone asks about La Ropa that is my 1st recommendation. I also regularily recommend a couple of condo complexes on La Ropa, as well as Bunglaows Vepao.

Regarding Casa Adriana, it was when we stayed there 15 years ago that we fell in love with Zihua. And yes, Lucy & I have remained friends all these years. However, if Casa Adriana did not deserve my recommendation, I would not make it. I have friends that have businesses that I would never recommend to anyone.

You don't know me at all, but if you did, you would know that I prize honesty and fairness above all else. I strive to be fair and objective. Of course I don't always succeed- I am human. But I would not make any recommendation based only on friendship.
